Principal's Report

Dear JPS Community,

Welcome back to JPS for 2026. It has been wonderful to see our students return for their first week of learning and to hear all about their amazing holiday adventures.

Kindergarten have also completed their very first week of school, and it’s safe to say it has been a huge one. It is completely normal to see some students feeling tired or teary at this stage, as the cognitive load of learning new routines, big days and full weeks can be overwhelming. Our Kindergarten students are doing an amazing job adjusting and we are so proud of the way they are settling into school life.

Lions Club Financial Assistance Reminder

A friendly reminder to families that the Lions Club through the P&C continues to offer financial assistance to support students and families within our school community. If you would like financial assistance with school related expenses including, uniforms, excursions or incursions, you can:

  • Complete the confidential request form via School Bytes, or

  • Speak with me directly

Please be assured that all requests are treated with confidentiality. We are grateful for the ongoing support of the Lions Club and their commitment to our school community.

Best Start - Kindergarten

Our Kindergarten students will be participating in Best Start assessments in literacy and numeracy this week and next. These assessments help us gain a clear picture of each child’s strengths and learning needs so we can plan effective teaching and support.

Mrs Dammerel, Mrs Green and I have been busy working with students, and it has been lovely to see how confidently many children are settling into school routines, sharing their thinking and having a go at new learning.

Families will receive feedback on their child’s learning in literacy and numeracy following the completion of the assessments.

Student Representative Council (SRC)

Students who wish to nominate for a Class SRC position (two representatives per class) will be invited to present a 30-second speech to their class. Kindergarten are not expected to write a speech. Class teachers will schedule a suitable time for speeches on Friday 13 February.

Following the speeches, students will participate in an anonymous class vote to elect their SRC representatives. Successful students will be inducted at the first school assembly on Friday 20 February at 2:00 pm, alongside the House Sport Captains, Library Monitors and Technology Team members.

Families will be notified after Friday 13 February if their child has been successful in gaining a class SRC position.

Meet the Teacher – We’d Love to See You!

Our Meet the Teacher sessions will be held in Week 4, and we warmly encourage families to attend.

  • Monday, 16 February – Kindergarten to Year 2

  • Tuesday, 17 February – Years 3 to 6

Sessions will be held in your child’s classroom, with a 5-minute break between sessions to allow families time to move between rooms.

If you do not have care available for your child during your session, students may be dropped at the school hall, where I will be supervising.

We look forward to welcoming you into our classrooms and strengthening our home–school partnership.

Leadership Induction Assembly on Friday 20 February at 2:00 pm.

At this assembly, we will officially induct our Student Representative Council (SRC) members, House Sport Captains, Library Monitors and Technology Team members. This is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the leadership shown by our students and celebrate the responsibilities they will undertake this year.

We look forward to welcoming families as we acknowledge and celebrate student leadership within our school community.

Welcome Back to School BBQ on Friday 20 February at 3:00 pm.

All Jamberoo Public School families are invited to our Welcome Back to School BBQ on Friday 20 February from 3:00–4:00 pm.

Join us for a relaxed afternoon to catch up with friends, meet new families and celebrate the start of the school year. Please let us know how many sausage sizzles your family will need and, if possible, lend a hand on the day by signing up via the link below.

Nuts at School

We have recently welcomed a new student to our school who has a severe nut allergy (anaphylaxis). To help keep all of our students safe, we kindly ask families to avoid packing nuts or nut products in lunch boxes, including foods that may contain nuts.

Year 1 - Mrs Turner and Mr Reed

Mrs Turner will be on leave from 19 February and will return for the final week of this term. During her absence, Mr Reed will be teaching Year 1 Bimbala. The students are very familiar with Mr Reed and we appreciate Mr Reed’s support in ensuring continuity of learning for our students.

Bump It Up, Enrichment and Learning Support

We are pleased to welcome Mrs Lando back to Jamberoo Public School, working Thursdays and Fridays this year. Mrs Lando will be leading Bump It Up, a targeted literacy and numeracy program supporting students to strengthen key skills and identify their next learning steps, as well as Thinkers’ Club, an enrichment program designed to challenge students to think creatively, critically and collaboratively.

Mrs Dammerel will continue in her Learning and Support role, working closely with students and teachers to provide targeted support and strengthen learning outcomes across the school.

We are excited to have both Mrs Lando and Mrs Dammerel supporting our students and staff this year.

Music Lessons Starting Next Week

We are pleased to let our community know that Mrs McCormack will be teaching music across all classes on Tuesdays (other than Walabi). To allow Mrs McCormack time to teach music in every classroom, I will be teaching Year 2 on Tuesdays this term. On Mondays, Mrs McCormack will teach music to her own class. We look forward to a wonderful term of learning music with Mrs McCormack.

Gymnastics Lessons Starting Next Week

Students will begin gymnastics lessons in week 3 (next week). Students are encouraged to wear their sports uniform (Years 3-6) on Tuesdays. Girls are encouraged not to wear dresses if they have another short options. If you would like financial support, please see above.

Scripture Lessons Starting Next Week

Students will go into their Protestant, Catholic, Ethics or Non-Scripture groups beginning on Thursday of next week. Scripture runs from 2-2:40pm every Thursday.

Birrahlee

Birrahlee: A Fantastic Start to the New School Year

Birrahlee has had a wonderful start to the new school year! Everyone has settled in quickly, and we are gradually finding our new routine.

To kick off the year on a positive note, each student has set personal goals to work towards. These goals range from academic achievements to physical and social growth, helping each student focus on their own development.

In addition, we have created self-portraits to display in our room. For some students, this activity has been done before, and it’s been fantastic to see the progress they’ve made in visual arts over time.

We’re excited to see what the rest of the year holds!

Cooinda

What a fantastic way to begin the school year! We have already jumped straight into learning and fun, starting with an amazing Swimming Carnival that showcased the enthusiasm, sportsmanship and team spirit of our students. It was wonderful to see everyone giving things a go, cheering each other on and enjoying the day together — a great reminder that effort and encouragement matter just as much as winning.

In the classroom, we have enjoyed spending time reconnecting and getting to know one another. Students loved sharing stories about their holiday adventures, special moments with family and friends, and the activities they enjoyed over the break. These conversations have helped create a positive and welcoming classroom environment. We have also been learning about each student’s interests, strengths and goals for the year ahead. From creative passions to sporting dreams and learning goals, our Year 4/5 students are already showing a strong desire to grow, challenge themselves and support one another.

We are looking forward to a year filled with learning, teamwork and many more moments to celebrate.

Mrs Milligan and Mrs Mahoney

Nanga Mai

Nanga Mai has had a fantastic start to the year! We began with a fun and creative week decorating our classroom, producing beautiful tropical artworks that have already made our learning space feel welcoming and vibrant.

In English, we have launched our new narrative unit and are thoroughly enjoying reading 'The Wild Robot'. Students have been engaged in discussions about characters, setting and themes and are excited to continue exploring the text in the coming weeks.

I am looking forward to a wonderful year of learning and growth together in Nanga Mai.

Mrs Peterson

Library

Welcome to the Library in 2026!

Library lessons will take place for all classes on a Wednesday. Please ensure students bring a library bag on this day to help keep our books safe and in good condition.

We encourage all students to borrow each week during their library lesson and to return their books the following week, supporting regular reading habits both at school and at home.

Reading plays a vital role in a child’s learning and development. It helps build vocabulary, comprehension, imagination, and confidence, while also supporting writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills across all learning areas. Most importantly, reading for enjoyment helps children develop a lifelong love of books and learning.

We’re also looking forward to welcoming our new library monitors and assistants this year, who will play an important role in supporting the library and helping create a positive, welcoming space for all students.

We can’t wait to inspire students to become enthusiastic readers and to enjoy spending time in our library space!

Library Lunchtime Update – Term 1 & Term 2

Dear Parents and Carers,

Please note that during Term 1 and Term 2, the school library will be closed at lunchtimes. This is due to myself choreographing the 2026 South Coast Dance Festival, which will be taking place in the school hall during these terms.

The library will still be open on Thursdays as a calm and quiet space for students, and for library monitors to continue participating in their duties.

If we have the opportunity to open some weeks this will be a priority. Once the Dance Festival has concluded, the library will reopen on Wednesdays at lunchtime, as per the usual routine.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Kind regards,

Mrs Green
