Site Open - Modified program - Friday 1st September

As per communication that was sent home on Tuesday via Audiri (Skoolbag) Kapunda Primary School will be open but providing a modified education program on Friday 1st September.  Families can send their children to the site as normal. Modified education programs will be provided to students until 3.10pm as normal. This means that groups of students will be supervised but regular classes will not take place.

Regular classes will commence at the site from Wednesday 6th September. Monday 4th September is our School Closure Day and Tuesday 5th September is our Pupil Free Day as previously planned and approved by Governing Council.

Book Week 2023

Each year since 1945, the Children’s Book Council Of Australia (CBCA) has brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week. Celebrated throughout schools and public libraries across Australia, the week sets out to highlight incredible Australian authors and illustrators, bringing light to the magic that is reading stories.

The theme for 2023 was “Read, Grow, Inspire”. Last Friday 25th August we had our Book Week parade. It was wonderful to see the time and creativity that students had put in to come dressed as their favourite book character or person who inspires them.  Thank you to parents/carers for your support of this event.

Staff Support Week

Last week we formally recognised the wonderful contribution our School Support Staff make to Kapunda Primary School. It was an opportunity to celebrate the vital work they do in supporting students, staff and the site in a range of roles.

Whether it be front office support staff administering medication or tracking our finances, curriculum support staff keeping our library working well or working with a large or small groups of students or grounds staff keeping the site looking spectacular, they all work as a team and support each other as the need arises.

On behalf of the whole school community, we would like to express the appreciation we have for each and every one of them.

Transition of Year 6 students to secondary school

In Week 3 of this term enrolment offers for secondary school were emailed to the families of Year 6 students. Most families should have received their offer by email on the 9th, 10th or 11th August. If you think you did not receive your enrolment offer from your secondary school, you need to check your junk folder for an email from education.noreply@sa.gov.au

If you did not provide an email address on your registration of interest form, you will receive your offer in the mail or it will be handed to you by your child.

For support to accept your enrolment offer visit education.sa.gov.au/enrolment or contact your allocated secondary school and they can step you through the process.

Progressive Achievement Testing and Phonics Screening Check

This term, students in Years 1 - 6, will again participate in the Progressive Achievement Testing (PAT) in Reading and Numeracy. The PAT tests provide schools with data about their students learning in the areas of reading (particularly comprehension) and numeracy. PAT testing occurs every year, providing schools with an opportunity to measure student growth, by comparing the most recent data with the data from the year before. We then use the same data to set growth targets for all students. We also spend time analysing the data to identify any patterns that may emerge and use that information to inform our planning, teaching and improvement agenda.

The Phonics Screening Check is a Department wide test for all students in Year 1. It is a short, simple assessment that tells teachers how students are progressing in phonics. It takes only 5-7 minutes and is carried out by classroom teachers with each student individually. Teachers then analyse the results and, if necessary, plan for any additional support that students might require. I am really excited to see how the students go in the assessment.

Attendance

Thank you to parents/carers for supporting our focus on attendance. It is pleasing to see an increase in students attending on time and for parents informing us regarding all absences. We remind and encourage parents to reply via SMS when a text message is sent regarding absence.

Dress Code policy consultation

The review of the Dress Code policy is now at the stage for consultation with the wider school community. Consultation will be open from 4pm today through to 3pm on Thursday 21st September. The document will be available electronically to provide feedback. Each family will receive an email where you will find the policy and a link to the comments box to provide feedback. If you would like a hard copy, please call into the Front Office where the staff will be able to provide you with one.

Kind regards,

David
