It is hard to believe that we are already at the end of the second week of term 4. With only a 9 week term, time is flying past.
You may have noticed that we have had both SAPOL and the local council monitoring the crossing and school zone on Parsons Road over the last two weeks. These visits have been to support compliance over the back to school period. Please can I ask that you continue to help keep our school community safe by walking to the crossing to cross Parsons Road and by remembering that the Drop Off zone is a 2 minute parking zone during peak times. Thank you for your supporting the safety of our students.
I am excited to let you know that representatives from our school have been invited to attend an official reception for the Premier’s Reading Challenge at the Adelaide Zoo later this term. Dernancourt School has had outstanding participation in the Premier’s Reading Challenge, and we would like to thank students for their participation and families for their continued support of reading at home and at school.
As we think about 2024, we are staring to plan for our newest students to arrive. Over the coming weeks, we will welcome preschool students as they begin their school orientation visits. This is always an exciting time. Further down in the newsletter, you will also find information regarding the student class placement process for 2024.
A group of upper primary students have been excitedly working with Ms Leonards and Ms Amy to plan our upcoming disco. The disco in an initiative of the SRC and we look forward to seeing many ‘movers and groovers’ on Friday November 3. Information about the disco can be found on Audiri.
Planning for 2024
This term, as a school, we begin to undertake many processes in planning for 2024. One of these processes is student class placements.
As a site, when determining student class placements, we will be dedicating time for our staff to come together and discuss each individual student and their placement for 2024. These discussions are informed by student academic ability, social and emotional needs, peer, friend and staff connections and other additional support as required. All decisions are made with the best interest of the student at the centre of discussions. This process takes many weeks, and our plan is to share 2024 class placements in the last week of term.
An important part of this process is parent involvement and giving families the opportunity to provide any information that may assist with student class placements. Please note that due to the staffing process requests for specific class teachers will not be able to be taken in to consideration.
If you wish to provide input in to your child’s class placement in 2024, I ask that you please email any information to Julie at dl.0982.leaders@schools.sa.edu.au before Friday November 17th.
