Moorditj Noongar Community College Newsletter

Term 3 ~ Week 3 ~ 31 July 2024

Messages From the Principal

Principals Address

It has been a super busy, choco-block term filled with learning inside and outside of the classroom. I have very much enjoyed returning to Moorditj after a taking medical leave and thank those families who expressed well wishes.

I have refined our Behaviour Management process at Moorditj this term and all the children have been walked through the expectations at our school. These are designed to ensure a safe, happy learning environment for students and staff. I have also introduced the Re-set Room which hopes to de-escalate children that are frustrated or angry.

NAIDOC Week

Moorditj conducted another successful NAIDOC week which culminated in a fabulous assembly and some amazing cultural activities. I was very proud of our Senior girls and their beautiful dance and super impressed with our senior boys first public performance on the didgeridoo. All our classes enjoyed fantastic cultural activities throughout the week and many of these can be viewed on our Moorditj Noongar Community College Facebook page. Mr Todd and Noongar artist Sharyn Egan completed some amazing artwork which the children proudly brought home. Special thanks to all hard-working team for their outstanding commitment to our NAIDOC celebrations.

Book Week

Moorditj is celebrating Book Week in Week 6 and the theme this year is “Reading is Magic”. Ms Emma has purchased the shortlisted books which will be studied in every classroom across the week. There is a special Bookweek incursion planned for Wednesday 21st August and the Middle and Senior classes will have author Sally Murphy visit on the Friday.  We will hold a special Book Week parade on Friday 26th August for all year groups. What will you dress up as?

Home Reading

Home Reading is an important part of our literacy strategy at Moorditj Noongar Community College. It is important that children read every night for at least 10 minutes. We will send home a variety of books that are at their appropriate level. Students that get their home reading books folders signed, will earn books every 20 nights at assembly. As an extra incentive this term, any student that reads for 35 out of 50 nights will receive a free fun excursion to Bounce.

BUS RUNS

Buswest actively monitor your child’s bus to accurately advise parents of pick up and drop off times and you will be informed directly when there are any delays etc.

If your child is going to be absent from the morning bus run, please message your child’s bus aide so the bus doesn’t have to go to your address.  A letter with their contact details was sent out at the end of Term 2.

As part of the School Bus Services bus agreement, you MUST be home for your child/ren for drop off

Please be advised that the buses are extremely full and we can only accommodate emergency requests to drop at another address if there is room to do so.

New Leadership Team

Well done to our School Leaders who delivered amazing speeches last week and were voted to represent Moorditj by their peers and the staff. We have needed to re--allocate some roles due to student movements.
