From the Principal

I have enjoyed my stay at Peachester State School over the last four weeks as acting principal. The warm and welcoming atmosphere, dedicated teachers, and friendly students have made my experience truly memorable. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Parents and Citizens (P&C) association for their ongoing efforts in raising funds for the school. Their commitment to supporting the school's programs and initiatives is truly commendable, and it is evident that their hard work contributes to creating a positive learning environment for everyone at Peachester State School.

NCCD (Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability)

Class teachers & support staff have been collating information for the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

·         Year of schooling

·         Category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional

·         Level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

·         Formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools

·         Consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools

·         Develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal:

Prep/1 News

This term in English the Prep / Year One class we are learning about rhyming and creating our own rhymes. The class has already listened to many different rhyming stories and thought about which stories they like and why. Next the class will look at poems, how they rhyme, the language features, and why we like them. To finish the unit the students will write their own rhymes

This term the class has also had a visit from Miss Jo and her story dog Stuey. Stuey and Miss Jo read with students each Thursday as part of the Story Dog’s program. The students really enjoyed reading and listening to stories with Miss Jo and Stuey and are looking forward to the next visit.

Year 1/2 News

During Naidoc week, we went and sat around the bush circle in the rainforest and heard the story about the Gurindji People and Vincent Lingari who stood up for his people when their land was taken from them in 1966.

It took 8 years but finally they got their land back, where they loved to live among the beautiful bush which gave them everything they needed to live; water, wood, food, shelter.  We learnt the story through the song ‘From Little Things Big Things Grow’.

We have finally found everything since our big move back into our classroom after the renovations.  We love all the extra space and cupboards we have.

We are writing Procedures this term and everyone is sharing what they can teach others to do.  In HASS we are learning about how to care for spaces in the environment around us.  In Maths we are focusing on 3D shapes and Measuring with area, length and capacity and in Science Mr C is teaching us all about Lights and Sounds.

Year 3 News

Year 4/5 News

This term we have been delving into the universe of Rin. The book Rowan of Rin is a quest novel where the main character Rowan has to go on a perilous journey with other villagers to try to find out why the villages water supply has dried up.

Rowan is terrified to be on this journey as he is afraid of many things and is seen as a weakling by the villagers of Rin.

For their assessment this term, the students will be analysing the language used by the author Emily Rodda to explain how Rowan is represented in a key event.

This is a new style of writing for the students and they have been making fantastic progress.

To assist with this, the students have been using an online tool called PADLET. This enables them to all respond to a question posed by me. They submit their thoughts to the PADLET page and then they can all comment on each-others writing. It has been great to see the student’s gaining confidence on the topic and expanding their comments.

I have printed out the PADLET pages we have been working on this term and these can be found on the learning wall. Please feel free to drop by and check them out.

Eisteddfod

On the 30th of July 2024, the Peachster State School Concert Band went to Mathew Flinders Collage to perform. We performed these three songs: ‘Gingerbread Man on Parade’, ‘Midnight Sky’ and ‘Midnight Madness’. We had a great experience, but sadly we didn’t place even though we got 70/100 points. There were 8 schools competing. We all had a great time and can’t wait to do it again. Well done to the Concert band students for working so hard and performing well.
