Education Week

We look forward to celebrating 175 years of public education in NSW and showcasing the talent and work of our students during Education Week which is held during Week 3 next term (30 July - 5 August). More details later within this newsletter.

School Holidays

As we finish another school term, we pause and reflect over the great efforts and achievements our students have made over the past 10 weeks. Wamberal PS is an amazing place where our students enjoy rich and rewarding education opportunities in academic, social, cultural, artistic and sporting arenas.

Thanks to our students for your hard work and consistent manner in which you represent our school. Thanks to our staff for their dedication and investments to ensure high-quality teaching and learning occurs. A special thanks also to our many volunteers, families and wider Wamberal community for your faithful support and contributions.

We wish you all a wonderful and restful holiday period and we look forward to seeing you again soon for an exciting Term 3.

Deputy Principal Message

Dear Parents and Carers

Thank you for taking the time to read up on this week’s information.

It has been another great week of learning at Wamberal Public School and our staff have enjoyed celebrating with the students in their many achievements so far this year. Sharing in children’s development over time and being part of their improvement is a great pleasure for all teachers. As a community it is our desire to value education and the opportunities it provides.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)

At Wamberal Public School we are safe, respectful learners. This week we are learning about the importance of being safe, respectful learners when going home.

Our social emotional wellbeing focus is on learning to pay attention to the body through movement. By paying attention to bodily sensations while regulating movement, students can cultivate self-awareness and develop self-regulation skills.

PBL Rewards Day Is On Thursday!

Congratulations to all our students on their safe respectful behaviour this term! We hope you enjoy your PBL Rewards Day on Thursday. Thank you to our amazing PBL team of teachers for all their work in planning and preparing for the Rewards Day and thank you again for our fantastic Wamberal Public School P&C who continue to support our Positive Behaviour for Learning programs through sponsorship of prizes for the lucky draw.

Attendance: Every Day Matters

Every day matters, as regular attendance helps students to:

  • develop a sense of belonging
  • develop and maintain friendships
  • be more engaged at school
  • progress with their learning
  • be more aware of career and life options.

NSW public schools have a target of a 95% attendance rate. This is the equivalent of 10 days away from school a year.

Supporting positive school attendance is a shared responsibility - everyone has a role. In Term 3, we will be recognising positive school attendance by:

  • students who have greater than 90% will be entered in to a draw for prizes twice per term; and
  • a whole class recognition reward for the class with the highest percentage attendance at the end of the term.

How you can help:

  • provide the school with an explanation for every absence;
  • limit late arrivals or early departures to genuine emergencies;
  • book holidays during the school breaks only;
  • seek support from the school if having difficulty getting your child to school.

You can view your child’s percentage attendance rate via the Sentral Parent Portal.

Student Reports

This week all K-6 students will receive their end of Semester 1 reports, which will be sent home electronically by email and available in the Sentral Parent Portal. The reports provide families with valuable feedback about their child’s progress and identify areas for further development. We encourage families to read the reports with their child and reflect on achievements and areas for greater focus for continued improvement. If you have any questions in relation to your child’s report, please do not hesitate to make an appointment with your child’s class teacher.

Playground Equipment

A reminder that the school’s playground equipment is for use by students under the supervision of a teacher. Please refrain from using this area after school, as staff are unable to supervise when completing after school responsibilities.

Education Week 2023 – Save The Date

Wamberal Public School will be celebrating Education Week on Monday 31 July 2023. Our parents and carers are invited to join us for the morning with a special performance assembly followed by open classrooms. Details are available later in this newsletter.

Happy Holidays

As this is the last newsletter for the term, we wish all families a safe and happy holiday. We look forward to seeing you next term, with students returning on Tuesday 18 July 2023.

Have a safe, happy and relaxing holiday everyone.

Library News

Dear parents, carers, and students,

I hope this message finds you well. So many students have told me about their great plans for the holidays. I am looking forward to hearing about all the adventures when we come back to school in Term 3.

Stay safe and read a book!

Mrs Pancia 😊

Book Week 2023

Keep your eye out for information about Book Week in Term 3. You can mark your calendars for Tuesday August 22. This year’s theme is Read, Grow, Inspire. https://cbca.org.au/cbca-book-week

Dressing up for the book character parade can reflect the theme but it doesn’t have to. The main idea is for students to think about a book character that they like. You do not have to spend money to dress up, you can find items around your house that will work.

Here are some sites with easy ideas.

Chaplain's Corner

The holidays are nearly upon us! What’s on your list of holiday to-dos?

I wonder if you are looking forward to some time away with family and friends or perhaps a stay-cation with a relaxed schedule and no lunches to pack? Maybe you need to keep on with your regular nine-to-five while the kids have a break from school?

Whatever life requires of you during the two-week school break, I hope you will find ways to enjoy some extra time with your children and make some fantastic memories along the way. Recently, I was surprised when one of my children shared with me some of their memories of holidays. The surprise came when they shared their positive experiences of things that, to me, seemed a bit ordinary. To them, the fond memories of those times were strong enough to bring it up years later.

These scheduled times to connect with our children can be precious, whether we are working as usual or have been able to take time off to do some extra fun things. Perhaps from an adult perspective it could be somewhat same-same, but from our children’s perspective they are making memories to take into the future. There are some wonderful resources online for finding activities to do with your children OR for children to do while you are still working. Weekends can also be a great time to make those extra special memories.

There are times when holidays bring extra stress. Everyone is home. Perhaps siblings are not getting along or there is extra financial stress. I know an extra stress at my house is how to balance time between devices and other activities that help children develop positively in other ways. If this resonates with you, I encourage you to find ways to build the fun times in as best as you can. And if things do get too stressful, please reach out. Lifeline (13 11 14) and Kids Help Line (1800 55 1800) are great supportive resources for adults and kids and available 24/7.

For some ideas on what to do on the Coast during the holidays, check out icentralcoast.com or Playing in Puddles and Eventbrite often has links to activities as well. I wish you the best of time with your children over the holidays!
