TERM 3 WEEK 2 - 02 AUGUST 2024

Principal

Welcome to Term 3!

We have had a fabulous start to the term and enjoyed celebrating the Sporting achievements of students at this week's assembly. A big thank you to all parents and staff who support extra curricular activities in our school. Next week are our NAIDOC week celebrations and we are excited to enjoy many different activities throughout the week. We encourage families and friends to attend.

Next week is also the official week for Public Education. This year the theme is Proud to Belong. Public Education Week is a time for all of us to feel "proud to belong", sharing our pride in being part of NSW public education and the achievements of our students and staff.

Moruya Public School is an inclusive school community. We are proud of all of our students and our community and proud to be able to offer an outstanding Public Education to the community that we serve.

Our school is incredibly lucky to have amazing volunteers that help with activities throughout the week. Breakfast Club, Kitchen Garden and Reading programs benefit significantly from the generosity of our volunteers. Unfortunately, over the holidays we were saddened to learn of the passing of Sue Eager. Sue was a devoted Up and Running reading tutor. Children loved having the opportunity to read with Sue and we know she delighted in their progress. Our deepest sympathies to Sue's family.

I hope to see you at next week's NAIDOC activities.

Sport Wrap up with Mrs Finney Week 2 Term 3 2024

The students of MPS have experienced many sporting opportunities in recent weeks, encouraging our physical movement and fitness skills.

Annual MPS Track Carnival

In the last week of Term 2 MPS students participated in the Athletics Track carnival at Moruya High School. Our students engaged in 100-, 200-, 800- and 1500-meter sprints as well as challenging themselves in a house team relay. We had many students trying new skills for the first time as the events challenged short and long course running skills, and all students enjoyed a day of sport. We had many volunteers, including MHS students mentoring us and we appreciate Moruya High School for hosting our event. Thank you.

Eurobodalla District PSSA athletics track and field carnival

This week our MPS students had opportunities to engage in higher sport competition at the Eurobodalla District PSSA athletics track and field carnival. We had students from all stages compete in track and field events including short and long course sprints, shot put and high jump. Our students also represented our school in Junior and Senior Boys and Girls 100m sprint relays, encouraging our school teamwork and spirit.

All competitors represented our school well and gave fantastic effort. We have a few MPS students who will be moving forward in the competition arena to the Regional PSSA athletics track and field carnival later in the term. More information on that will be shared here in coming weeks. Watch this space.

MPS Premier’s Sporting Challenge Olympics

MPS students have begun their Premier’s Sporting Challenge last week in week 1. All students from K to 6 have opportunity to participate in a range of physical activities within the school program, in the classroom and on breaks.

The Premier’s Sporting Challenge encourages active participation in physical activity both in school hours and out of school. Students in K-2 will log participation in Fundamental Movement Skills, while students in years 3-6 will log their participation toward specific movement activities and sports. This challenge has encouraged many interesting conversations with students about what physical activity can look like in school, sport and home environments.

In the spirit of the Olympics, MPS students are now engaged in the MPS Premier’s Sporting Challenge Olympics. In this challenge students log their minutes of sporting and physical activity to achieve different levels of participation: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond.

Students are given time to log their achievements and their participation is logged in a class team tally. Every week classes will log their class medals onto their e wall chart. The classes with the most gold/diamond participation medals for sport and physical activity will be awarded a MPS Gold, Silver or Bronze Medal of participation.

The first week was a very exciting week with the following classes achieving the awards below.

Week 1 Premiers Sporting Challenge Class Participation Medal Winners

Gold Medal - 3/4C : 16 Gold/Silver participation medals

Silver Medal - 4/5F: 15 Gold/Silver participation medals

Bronze Medal - 5/6T: 14 Gold Silver participation medals

Students can log their outside of school sport and movement activities in this challenge as well. Please encourage your child to look for other ways to participate in the challenge. Sport practice, sport games, swimming lessons, sport/ movement classes and even movement activities that increase your heart rate for 20 minutes such as brisk walking or running the dog around the block would be included in the tally.

Great work to those classes. I look forward to seeing the winners for this week.

Eurobodalla's Mayor's Writing Competition 2024

The Emus have been learning how to write a persuasive piece of writing. They listened to audio information about koalas and recorded key facts and details to use within their text. Students then looked at a range of persuasive texts and analysed key features within a persuasive text in order to write a successful one. They were very engaged and created wonderful persuasive texts on why koalas need to be protected to share with the local community of Moruya. Well done to all the Emus for their dedication in creating these texts. Please enjoy the following pieces of work by Chase, Sarah and Hayley.

Late last term our Year 6 Students visited Moruya High School for a Transition day. Thank you Moruya High School for welcoming our students to your School.
