Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and carers,

This week, I would like to commend our Year 10 students for the focused and mature way they have approached both their PNG National and IGCSE examinations. Their preparation, punctuality, and positive attitude have been exemplary, and we are proud of the way they have represented our school.

Looking ahead, our Year 12 students will sit their PNG National Examinations next week. We wish them every success and encourage them to remain confident and committed as they complete this important milestone in their academic journey.

Next Wednesday and Thursday, we will be hosting our Open Days. These are a valuable opportunity for families and prospective students to visit the school, meet our staff, and learn more about our programs and learning environment. We encourage all members of our community to spread the word and support these events.

We also look forward to welcoming officers from the IEA CPD unit to our campus next week. Their continued support plays a vital role in the professional development of our teaching staff, and we thank them for their ongoing partnership and commitment to educational excellence

Deputy Principal's Notices

National Exams:

Grade 10 have now completed their exams, well done!

Next week Grade 12 will commence their National Exams and as with the Grade 10 it is important they focus and use their time effectively to support some last minute revision of areas identified from the last mocks they completed. We wish them all the best and are sure they will all reach their best potential.

Grade 8 exams will soon be upon us and the Grade 8 teachers have been working tirelessly to prepare the students.

Parental support in this time is incredibly important to ensure that students sleep, revision, and wellbeing is managed effectively. Our Boarding House parents will be keeping a watchful eye over all the students sitting exams in their care.

Events upcoming:

Alongside our school trips for Grade 9 and 11 we have some other events taking place this term. In week 6 whilst the trips are taking place our Grade 10s will be participating in a careers week. The aim of this week is begin the discussion around tertiary education and what students are hoping to achieve by the end of Grade 12.

Our Grade 5 & 6 students will have an opportunity for STEM and Teambuilding day and sleepover, more details regarding this event at the end of the month will be shared next week.

We have our final primary disco on Thursday 13th November and our Market Day including Monster Raffle scheduled for Saturday 22nd November.

Grade 12 Formal and Graduation:

The Grade 12 formal is scheduled for Thursday 23rd October and the Graduation will be on the Friday 24th October. Information regarding these events has been sent out to Grade 12 parents and students.

Mobile Phone Policy

As with many other schools around the world LIS has led the way with a zero tolerance on the use of mobile phones in school. This is to ensure our students attention is on learning both socially and academically. All parents are reminded that if student mobile phones are seen on either school campus they will be confiscated by the teacher. Parents will then be asked to come and collect the phone from the school office. Repeat occurrences do result in further behaviour sanctions and longer periods of confiscation. We thank all parents for their support in helping our school to remain a distraction free environment where our students can interact socially with one another and give full focus to strengthening their knowledge and understanding.

School Arrival and Departure Times:

Parents are reminded that school finishes at 3pm on both campuses. Students should only remain past pick up time 3.00pm – 3.15pm in secondary if they are participating in intervention classes or a sports ECA. Students not participating should leave the secondary campus promptly after 3pm.

ECAs finish have now finished in primary. All primary students should be picked up promptly between 3.00pm – 3.15pm. In the rare event of a late pick up, due to unforeseen issues, parents should be contacting the school office to advise them. Students should not be regularly picked up late as the school is unable to provide supervision for them.

The school bus service is available as an option if parents are unable to pick their children up at the required times.

As a reminder to all parents and guardians, supervision of students on the primary campus begins at 7.30am with students able to enter classes from 7.45am. We advise all parents to ensure they do not drop their children off earlier than 7.30am. If students arrive between 7.30am and 7.45am they will be supervised in the hall and need to remain in there seated quietly until they can enter classroom.

LIS Positive Behaviour Policy

Pictured below are copies of the behaviour stages followed by all staff when dealing with negative behaviour. Should parents want a full copy of the school’s positive behaviour policy this is available from the school office at either Primary or Secondary.

Head of Boarding

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we enter the final term of the academic year, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks for your continued support and partnership. This term is a pivotal one, with year 12 and 8 students preparing for their final examinations and wrapping up a year of growth, learning, and memorable experiences while the year 10 finishing of their national exam.

Boarding Life

The boarding house remains a hub of calm and encouragement. We’ve adjusted routines to support focused study time, and quiet hours are being observed to help students concentrate.

Key Dates

  • Exam Week: [Week 2 – Week 4]
  • Gr 12 Boarders Farewell: [Saturday 18th October]
  • Departure Day: [Gr 12 students leave after their graduation while Grade 10 students remain for school organized program]

Virtue of the week – Patience

As we journey through another term together, we pause to reflect on a virtue that quietly shapes the lives of our children and the rhythm of our boarding community: patience.

In a world that often celebrates speed and instant results, patience reminds us of the deeper value of waiting, nurturing, and trusting the process. For our boarders, patience is not just a virtue—it’s a daily practice. Whether it’s adjusting to new routines, navigating friendships, or striving toward academic goals, they are learning that growth takes time and that resilience is built one moment at a time.

As parents, your patience is a powerful gift. Your steady presence, even from afar, teaches them that they are held, even when things feel uncertain.

We encourage everyone to continue modeling patience in our conversations, our expectations, and our encouragement. Celebrate the small wins. Embrace the slow days. Trust that the seeds we’ve planted are taking root.

Let us all remember: patience is not passive. It is active faith in the unfolding of something beautiful.

With gratitude for your continued partnership,

Stay Connected

We’ll continue to keep you updated with weekly check-ins and any important notices. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the boarding team.

Wishing all our students the very best as they approach this final stretch. We’re proud of their hard work and resilience, and we look forward to celebrating their achievements soon.

Warm regards,

Boarding Team
