Last Wednesday our School Advisory Council gathered for the first meeting of the year. The meeting celebrated the work of the SAC in 2024 and discussed a number of aspects of SJB.
One aspect discussed at the SAC was the introduction of the St John the Baptist School Expectations with a focus on positive behaviour for learning. This has been a significant emphasis at St John’s which has seen the building of relationships and a great response from our staff and students. The emphasis on a school wide approach to positive behaviour for learning ensures consistency of language across all staff, in all situations at all times. This provides the students with clear expectations in every aspect of school life. Firm, high, clear expectations are easily achieved when we are consistent, insistent and persistent. This sets our students up for success as they know what is expected of them at all times.
The School Advisory Council discussed the strength of using a positive based approach over a ‘rules’ based approach and the notion of having the same sentence stems and language to use as families. This is a terrific recommendation as the more that this is consistent for students in every aspect of their lives this becomes a natural way of working.
Please find attached the sentence stems we are using to support our SJB School Expectations for positive behaviour for learning.
