TERM 2 WEEK 2 - 3 MAY 2023

Principal Update

Welcome back

Welcome back to Term 2. I hope all students and their families had an enjoyable holiday break. We are looking forward to another exciting term of learning at Moruya Public School and it has been wonderful to see students quickly settle back into school. This term we continue to focus on evidence informed teaching strategies, particularly in literacy and numeracy as well as the implementation of the new K-2 curriculum. We will also see a particular focus on numeracy with all teachers using student data to inform their practice and support all students in achieving growth. Student reports will also be provided to all parents this term with parent teacher interviews being conducted in the last week of term. Should you have any concerns about your child's learning you are always welcome to contact the class teacher.

Staff Development Day

On Monday 24 April all staff participated in professional learning with a focus on Aboriginal Education. We began our day out at the Dreaming Track at Bingi where we further developed our knowledge of local history and culture. We also participated in a language lesson. Upon returning to school we collaborated on our strategic improvement plan with a specific focus on meeting the needs of Aboriginal students. This was a wonderful learning opportunity for all staff and a highly beneficial experience.

ANZAC Day

Thank you to all the staff and students who participated in the ANZAC services at Tuross and Moruya on ANZAC Day. Thank you also to families for supporting the participation of students.

Taste of School - Kindergarten 2024

We are now accepting enrolments for Kindergarten 2024. On Tuesday  9 May we will hold our first transition activity for students starting school in 2024. All children are invited to attend school from 9 - 11 am to experience school activities. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Further information about enrolling your child in school will also be available. We look forward to welcoming you to our school next Tuesday. If you are unable to attend or would like an information pack please contact our office.

Murray Street Crossing

The Murray Street crossing is currently being upgraded to a permanent pedestrian crossing with a raised (road hump) platform. This will mean that the crossing will operate at all times rather than only during periods where the school flags are displayed.

PEER SUPPORT - INTRODUCING OUR PEER SUPPORT Term 2

This  week our students will commence our Peer Support Program. For the next 8 weeks they will be involved in groups of approximately 12-14 students to work with 2 student Peer Leaders and a supervising teacher on "We are Stronger Together" - module that aims to support positive relationships amongst students.  Starting this week, we will talk to students about their strengths and their resilience. We will discuss positive relationships or friendships and what to do if they experience harmful and hurtful behaviours. Our Peer Leaders have been trained and have planned their session using the materials we have from Peer Support Australia that are specially designed for student led sessions.  Our supervising class teachers will prepare students, supervise sessions and check understanding at the end of the session.

Our session this week includes activities for the members of the group to get to know each other. It establishes a safe learning environment where each group will develop a group agreement for 'Positive Behaviour for Learning' in Peer Support.
