From the Principal's Desk...

Dear Year 3 & Year 5 students...

NAPLAN is a mere snapshot on a particular day; it does not assess all of what makes each of you exceptional and unique. The people who score these tests don’t know that some of you love to sing or play an instrument, are good at drawing, or can teach others how to use a computer program. They have not seen the way that some of you can dance with grace, or speak confidently to a large group. They do not know that your friends count on you to be there for them when they are sad. They do not know that you participate in sports, help your family, or that you play with your little brother, sister or cousins. They do not know that you are caring, thoughtful and that, every day, you do your best, because these are attributes that cannot be tested. The scores you will get from this test will only tell you how you did on the day of the test, but will not tell you everything. The results can’t tell you that you have improved on something that you once found difficult. They can’t tell you that you brighten up your teacher’s day. They can’t tell you how amazingly special you are. Hopefully, you will tackle each NAPLAN test to the best of your ability, although you need to **remember that there is no one way to ‘test’ all the wonderful things that make you, YOU! You've got this!** from Balmain PS 💙💛

SPOTLIGHT ON...

6 BONGO!!!

This week, 6 Bongo, along with most of the school, got to explore Sydney Zoo! We tested our navigation skills and even though we might’ve taken a different turn to what we planned, we still got to see every part of the zoo. A few things we learnt are: the Nyala can look very similar to the Bongo; a Shark’s poo is great fertiliser for coral reefs; and Hyenas look a lot bigger in real life, and a lot less scraggly than what The Lion King taught us!

3/2 ANTILOCAPRA!!!

We are going to the zoo, zoo, zoo. How about you, you, you. Do you want to come too, too, too? 3/2A went to the ZOO, ZOO, ZOO! On Thursday, 3/2A had the most AHHHHHMAZING day at Sydney Zoo.

In class earlier in the week, we looked at the zoo map and discussed all animals that we could see. We decided on the route around the zoo that we would take and all the MUST SEE animals. We had a camelid search and made sure that we put those on our list!

When we got to the zoo we headed straight for the African Wilderness and were lucky enough to see BABY MEERKATS! The zookeepers even picked them up and showed them to us before he took them back inside for lunch time. They were smaller than the zoo keepers hands!

We stopped at the Asian elephants and sat in the shade to eat while we enjoyed the view! After we finished eating we got out our sketch books and drew a picture of the elephant and wrote down some facts we found on the different information boards.

We then headed for our first camelid - the giraffe! We stopped here and did some more drawing and looked at all the information. The last animal on our African safari was the CAMEL! Lucky for us two of the camels were right up against the fence and we got a really good close look! The camels were doing a lot of chewing and we were a little worried we might get spat on. We really enjoyed the African section and learnt a lot about all the different animals there.

3/2A enjoyed the air conditioning in the aquarium and reptile sections and had a rest break in front of the quoll enclosure as we enthusiastically watched it play. This was some of the class's favourite part of the day.

After exploring the Australian section we headed into the primates. We sat in front of the Baboons and watched them chase each other around. This was also one of the class's favourite activities and we spent lots of time here. They are very noisy! Overall, 3/2A had a fantastic day at the Zoo!
