Principal's Updates

Carlingford Network Middle Leaders Inaugural Network Meeting

Last Tuesday our school was excited to launch the Carlingford Middle Leaders Network, which will provide a platform for assistant principals, relieving assistant principals, and aspiring middle leaders to collaborate, share practice, and strengthen leadership capacity across our schools. Congratulations to Ms Taylor who is leading this wonderful initiative to help support leaders in our local network.

Explicit Teaching in Mathematics

I had a wonderful time visiting 1/2 Coral during their mathematics lesson. Mrs Rana and Mrs Aldred were explicitly teaching the students the need for a formal unit of measure, by modelling how to measure the surface area of different objects. It was great to observe the students learning and reciting strategies such as ‘no gaps and no overlaps’ whilst they were measuring. It was a wonderful opportunity for me to invite Mr Paul McDermott from the Department’s School Excellence Team to view some learning in action at Rydalmere Public School.

Spelling Bee

Congratulations to Bruce and Charlie who gave an amazing effort at the Regional Spelling Bee last week. They both reached round three of the competition and gave it their best! Well done boys for making us all proud of your achievements.

John Street Pedestrian Crossing

Transport NSW are still in the process of organising a crossing supervisor for the John Street pedestrian crossing. Please remind your children of the following road safety messages which are:

• Wherever possible, cross the road at a designated pedestrian crossing facility

• Stop! Look! Listen! Think! when crossing the road.

• Take care whenever you cross.

• Don’t run across the road.

The sun has finally returned! We hope to make it out to on Friday PSSA League Tag where we will be playing at Old Saleyards Reserve.

Have a wonderful week and enjoy the upcoming spring sunshine.

Regards,

Mr Yee.

K-2 Assistant Principal Updates

Home Reading Reminder

Home reader books must stay inside the blue home reading folder at all times, whether at home or while traveling to and from school. Please note that we will no longer be assigning online home readers; however, you will still have access to the portal for videos and lessons if you'd like to provide extra support at home. Home readers and reading logs must be returned to your child’s classroom teacher every Friday. Please do not send them earlier, as this helps teachers manage the program effectively.

Toys

We kindly ask that students do not bring toys to school. Toys can easily become lost, broken or cause distractions during learning time. To help create a focused and safe learning environment for everyone, we appreciate your support in keeping all toys at home. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

Stage 1 Explore the World of Materials

Stage 1 have been diving into the fascinating topic of Material World in science and have had a fantastic time exploring how different materials can change. Through a variety of fun, hands-on experiments, students explored the properties of solids and liquids, and how they can change when heated, cooled or mixed.  The lessons have been exciting and engaging journey filled with curiosity, discovery and lots of enthusiastic learning!

K-2 Excursions

Our K–2 students had a fantastic time on their excursion to Elizabeth Farm! The day was filled with excitement as they explored the historic house and gardens, learning what life was like in the past. Students took part in hands-on activities such as washing clothes and writing with a quill the old-fashioned way, while discovering how people lived without modern technology. A big thank you to our parent helpers and teachers for making it such a smooth and memorable experience!

Responsible Pet Education Program

We’d like to extend a big thank you to the Responsible Pet Education Program for providing our K–2 students with a free and engaging session on dog safety. The program taught students how to care for a dog responsibly and how to stay safe around dogs, both at home and in public.

Swimming Program Reminder

All swimming ability forms must be returned by tomorrow. If you haven’t completed the form or need another copy, please come and collect one as soon as possible. Ryde Aquatic Centre requires this information to prepare for the program.

A reminder that the swimming program will take place during Weeks 9 and 10, running from Monday, 15th September to Friday, 26th September.

What to Expect at Camp

Students are in for an unforgettable adventure! From the moment we arrive, the days will be filled with teamwork, challenges, and plenty of fun. Everyone will settle into their accommodation, meet their activity groups, and dive straight into exciting outdoor experiences.

Throughout camp, students will get the chance to take on high-energy activities such as rock climbing, archery, the giant swing, and high ropes, testing their courage and persistence. They’ll also explore creative and practical skills with bushcraft and initiative challenges, learning to problem-solve and support one another.

Evenings will be just as memorable, with night activities, team challenges, and campfires that bring everyone together to share stories and laughter under the stars. By the end of camp, students will have incredible memories, stronger friendships, and plenty of stories to tell!

Reminders for Families

  • Please ensure camp payments are finalised.

  • Medical and dietary forms are currently being prepared and will be sent home shortly.

Check-in Assessment Starting Next Week

Next week, students in Years 3–9 will take part in the annual Check-in assessment. This online assessment, developed by the NSW Department of Education, provides valuable insight into students’ progress in literacy and numeracy.

All students complete a reading and numeracy test (around 60 minutes each), while Year 6 students also complete a writing task. The assessment helps identify strengths and areas for improvement, supporting teachers to plan targeted learning and teaching strategies.

By participating, our school gains a deeper understanding of student performance, allowing us to better support individual learning needs and ensure every student is set up for success.

A few women in our Monday English class are currently preparing for the Citizenship test. They’ve already completed four modules and have three more to go. If you’d like to learn more about Australia—or just refresh your knowledge—you’re very welcome to join us.

Each week we have relaxed, friendly conversations on a range of topics. Just last week, we talked about different parenting styles, and it sparked some really interesting discussions. It’s a welcoming space to connect with others in the community, share ideas, and have a bit of fun along the way.

Looking for something active? Come along to Huddle Up—our free, child-friendly physical activity program held every Tuesday morning. Hannah runs the group for an hour, and everyone is welcome. No need to book—just drop in and give it a try! If you’d like to register, Seetha will be happy to help.

This week we’re also hosting our School Community Eye Clinic. Around 100 children and adults will be receiving free eye tests—what an amazing effort! A big thank you to MobilEyes for making this possible and supporting our community.

Speech Therapist at Playgroup A speech therapist will be visiting our playgroup on Wednesday, 10 September, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. If you have any concerns about your child’s language development, this is a great opportunity to ask questions and get advice. Please book a time with Seetha.

Chat & Crochet Ever thought about giving crochet a go? Whether you’re a complete beginner or already love it, come along to our Chat & Crochet group. The Hub will provide wool, needles, and of course tea, coffee, and biscuits. It’s a relaxed way to get creative and connect with others.

Grandparents Day Don’t forget—our much-loved Grandparents Day is coming up on Friday, 31 October. Mark your calendars, it’s always a special day to celebrate the wonderful role grandparents play in our children’s lives.

We look forward to seeing you at these events and programs—there’s something for everyone, so come along, join in, and be part of the fun!

I’m Seetha, the Community Liaison Officer at the Hub. I’m at school on Mon, Tue, Wed and Fri. The Hub is a welcoming space for parents to connect, make friends, and join activities.
