Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

I have been pleased to witness the commitment our students have shown towards their studies this term and during the current assessment period. Our upper primary and secondary students in particular, continue to demonstrate healthy dedication, striving towards academic excellence.

Thanks to parents who have signed up for the Audiri App, staying connected with the school and receiving important updates. If you haven’t joined yet, we encourage you to do so—it’s a great way to stay informed about school activities. Should you need any assistance with signing up, our office staff are happy to help.

We are also pleased to see our students wearing their uniforms with pride, reflecting their sense of belonging and respect for the school. If your child needs any uniform items, please visit the uniform shop at the primary campus to ensure they are properly dressed for the school day.

Over the past week, our students had the opportunity to visit the Wildlife Habitat at Unitech, an experience that broadened their understanding of biodiversity and conservation. Such excursions highlight the diverse learning experiences we offer at Lae International School, ensuring education goes beyond the classroom.

Additionally, PAT testing is an important part of tracking student progress, and we are continuing with this process next week.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to your child’s education. Please reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher if you have any concerns.

School Fees

Thanks to those families with Term 2 outstanding fees on payment plans for keeping to their arrangements. A reminder that all Term 2 fees must be completed by the end of the term. Children cannot attend class in Term 3 with outstanding Term 2 fees. Term 3 invoices will be sent out shortly. Prompt payment and communication regarding school fees is encouraged.

All IEA principals will be attending the Edutech Australia 2025 Conference in Sydney next week. This is a large educational conference aimed at providing the latest and most innovative developments in Information and Technology education giving participants the opportunity to network and gain valuable insights to bring back to their own schools.

Thank you all for your continued support.

Warm regards

Mr Greg Neville

Principal

Reminder

We kindly remind you of you of your responsibility to pick up students from school at the appropriate times:

  • ELC full day/ Preschool - Year 8 students: Between 3.00PM - 3:15 PM
  • Students in ECAs: 4:00 PM sharp

Ensuring the proper safeguarding of students requires diligence in picking up children on time. It is important that all parents adhere to these timings to maintain a safe and structured environment for all students.

Deputy Principal's Notices

Upcoming Teacher Only Day and Public Holiday

Monday 16th June is a scheduled teacher only day, on this day teachers will be focused on professional learning alongside planning and preparation for Term 3.

Tuesday 17th June is a schedule public holiday.

Students should not come to school on either day.

Track and Field Spirit Carnival

Ms Kanini has been busy working with the different grade levels throughout the school in Track and Field training. The primary school oval has been marked to include an area for a running track and an area for the field events such as discus, javelin, and shot put. On Thursday 19th June we have our Prep to Grade 4 event and on Friday 19th June our Grade 5 to Grade 12 event. The days have been planned to ensure all students have the opportunity to participate if they wish. All students should be present on the finals days of the term to compete or support those competing.

Drone Lunchtime ECA Opportunities

In the secondary school we have started a sign out system for the school drones at lunchtimes. Students can come and sign out one of our 5 drones for use in lunchtime and then sign it back in at the end of the lunch period. So far students have enjoyed having this opportunity and we welcome all to gain experience in flying the drones.

STEM Fair:

The first STEM fair heats were this week. The top 10 projects from the secondary and primary heats will go through to our Grand Final which will be held on Wednesday 18th June at the secondary campus.

School Arrival and Departure Times:

Parents are reminded that school finishes at 3pm on both campuses for Prep to Grade 12 students.

Students should only remain past pick up time 3.00pm – 3.15pm in secondary if they are participating in intervention classes or a sports ECA. Students not participating should leave the secondary campus promptly after 3pm.

ECAs finish have now finished in primary. All primary students should be picked up promptly between 3.00pm – 3.15pm. In the rare event of a late pick up, due to unforeseen issues, parents should be contacting the school office to advise them. Students should not be regularly picked up late as the school is unable to provide supervision for them.

The school bus service is available as an option if parents are unable to pick their children up at the required times.

As a reminder to all parents and guardians, supervision of students on the primary campus begins at 7.30am with students able to enter classes from 7.45am. We advise all parents to ensure they do not drop their children off earlier than 7.30am. If students arrive between 7.30am and 7.45am they will be supervised in the hall and need to remain in there seated quietly until they can enter classroom.

PAT Testing

Next week our PAT testing for Grade 1 to Grade 8 continues. So far students have shown great enthusiasm for the assessments in English, Maths, and Reading. In our upcoming teacher only day class teachers will be given the opportunity to develop their understanding of the individual and group needs of their classes, through a training session relating to use of PAT Data.

Head of Secondary Campus Notices

Greetings, everyone! As we step into another exciting week, we have a number of key updates and upcoming events to share with you.

Grade 10 National Written Expression Examination

A big congratulations to our Year 10 students on successfully completing their Grade 10 National Written Expression Examination this past Thursday. Under the expert guidance of our Grade 10 English Teacher, Ms. Pitep, all 41 students dedicated themselves to rigorous preparation, including two full mock exams. These practice sessions have been instrumental in refining their writing skills, boosting their confidence, and ensuring they were thoroughly prepared for the challenge.

We applaud their commitment to excellence and recognize the hard work they have invested in their studies. The entire school stands united in support of their efforts.

Our Principal, Mr. Greg Neville, shared words of encouragement: "The Written Expression exam is an opportunity for our students to showcase their ability to communicate effectively. I have every confidence in their preparation and commitment, and I encourage them to approach the exam with confidence. Trust in the process and your own hard work—you are ready to excel."

Grade 12 Written Expression Mock Exam

Grade 12 students will be sitting for their second Written Expression Mock Exam next week, as part of their ongoing preparation for the final assessment scheduled for August 4, 2025, in Term 3.

We extend our best wishes to them and are confident they will continue to demonstrate the same level of excellence as in their previous efforts. This mock exam provides an invaluable opportunity to refine their skills and build further readiness for their final exam.

Secondary STEM Fair

This Friday, all secondary students will have the opportunity to showcase their STEM projects in the school STEM exhibition. Despite their demanding schedules, they have worked tirelessly to develop projects aligned with this year’s theme: Reducing, Recycling, and Reusing Plastics.

This theme ties in beautifully with World Environment Day, reinforcing the importance of sustainability and environmental stewardship. The exhibition will take place in the Secondary Hall, and the most innovative projects will advance to the final round—a whole-school STEM exhibition at the Secondary Campus on June 18.

Parents are encouraged to attend and support our students in their creative endeavors!

Whole School Spirit Carnival

The Whole School Sports Carnival is scheduled for Friday 20 June, 2025, and will be held at the Primary Campus. Preparations are already in full swing, and a detailed program for the day will be shared soon.

This event promises to be a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their athletic talents and engage in friendly competition. We welcome parents who wish to attend and cheer on the students as they demonstrate teamwork, perseverance, and school spirit.

Additionally, this marks the end of the term, with school holidays commencing immediately after the carnival. Further details will be communicated through email updates from homeroom teachers, as well as via WhatsApp, Facebook, and the Audiri App.

Year 9 and 10 PE Lessons – Preparations for the Spirit Carnival

All Grade 9 and 10 students will have their PE lessons at the Primary Campus from this week onward, leading up to the Spirit Carnival. Grades 11 and 12 will have separate arrangements for their preparation sessions, ensuring all students are adequately trained and ready for the big event.

Dear Parents

3. Boarding house will be closed on Monday 23rd June and we will be open starting Friday 11th July.

4. For students travelling by air, I recommend Guard Dog Coach service for airport transfer. Parents can contact Wendy John on email: wjohn@gdsspng.com.  their charge is K93.50

5. Students with fees outstanding: The Finance team will be in contact. It is important that fees are cleared with Finance before they return for term 3.
