TOKSAVE - Week 6 Term 2, 2025

Lihir International School and School to Mine Campus

Principal: Mr Kevin Collins

Deputy Principal LIS: Ms Catherine Langusch

Deputy Principal STM: Mr David Wengip

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Chickenpox (Varicella)

There has been a number of new cases of Chickenpox in the school. We are continuing our additional cleaning and precautions to minimise transmission. Please watch your child for symptoms. If your child has chickenpox, they may:

•           have a mild fever

•           feel tired and irritable

•           be itchy

•           have a rash /blister like spots.

Please advise the school ASAP if you suspect your child has contracted Chickenpox.

Children with chickenpox should not go to kindergarten or school until the last blister has dried.

Parents and Visitors to Lihir International School

We have had a number of cases of both parents and visitors to the school walking through the school grounds without first checking in at the main administration office. While we encourage teacher parent communication it is preferred an appointment be arranged prior to any formal meetings. For any informal correspondence please do stop by the main administration office to touch base before entering the school. Also, it is a courtesy to knock on the classroom door before entering the classroom, particularly if the teacher is busy with other students and not aware you are there.

Student Absences

Please note, it is not the classroom teacher’s responsibility to provide learning packs or work for students who are absent for a period of time for either travel or sickness. Our teachers will generally assist with providing core work and assessment for students, but this should be organised via email prior to coming to the classroom. This provides teacher’s an opportunity to gather resources and provide clear instructions for absent students. Sick students should not come into the classroom to collect resources.

Wellbeing

As part of our student Wellbeing program, we are hosting a Wellbeing afternoon today after lunch. Thank you to Ms Langusch, the Wellbeing Team and all teachers for organising this important afternoon. Thanks also to the P&W who have made donations of fresh fruit as a healthy snack for all students from Prep to Grade 10 as part of this afternoon.

Work Ready Program

This week the WRP Trainees have completed two training modules: Fit for Work and Communicate at Work.  The Fit For Work module focuses on the physical, emotional, psychological and Health status of the individual. Discussions also include the importance of being fit and healthy and the opposite, unfit and unhealthy, and it’s implications at the workplace. The second module Communicate at Work mainly covers topics on the importance of communication in general but specifically focuses on communication with colleagues at the workplace.

A reminder again that towards the end of last year, we put a temporary stop to accepting new Work Ready Program Applications and this is still in effect. A Toksave will be sent out by mid-this year announcing when, new WRP applications will be accepted.

FODE program has commenced for this Term and Students are working at their own pace with the guidance and assistance from STM Staff.

Afternoon Remedials / IT / Exam Prep
