Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Chickenpox (Varicella)

There has still been a few new cases of Chickenpox in the school. We are continuing our additional cleaning and precautions to minimise transmission. Please watch your child for symptoms. If your child has chickenpox, they may:

•           have a mild fever

•           feel tired and irritable

•           be itchy

•           have a rash /blister like spots.

Please advise the school ASAP if you suspect your child has contracted Chickenpox.

Children with chickenpox should not go to kindergarten or school until the last blister has dried.

Parents and Visitors to Lihir International School

We have had a number of cases of both parents and visitors to the school, walking through the school grounds without first checking in at the main administration office. While we encourage teacher / parent communication it is preferred an appointment be arranged prior to any formal meetings. For any informal correspondence please do stop by the main administration office to touch base before entering the school.

Grade 7/8 Cairns Trip

This week the Grade 7 and 8 students travelled to Cairns for the bi-annual school Grade 7/8 Trip. Students had an amazing experience exploring many of the great sites of Cairns including, the Great Barrier Reef, the Kuranda Rainforest, and many of Cairns city highlights. Students were extremely well-behaved and we received many positive remarks on their behaviour throughout the week.  We look forward to landing back in Lihir on Friday.

Unfortunately some students were unable to obtain a passport and visa on time but we will ensure these students have the opportunity to undertake this trip next time.
