Education Week 2023

This week has seen 175 years of Public Education being celebrated in NSW schools, including Balmain! Our school is celebrating 163 years of public education this year!

It was really lovely to see so many of our families visiting yesterday for our Open Classrooms, after a short assembly, where our Learning & Engagement Ministers talked out our local and school history, as well as our Stage One students performing.

Please visit @balmainps for more!

To ensure you receive all communication via Compass, please have the app downloaded on your phone, with the notifications turned ON.

Although the school pushes out notifications via the app and email, there may be times when an important message may be missed as emails may sometimes not be checked regularly.

If there were to be an emergency, (hopefully not), information would be pushed out via Compass.

SOCCER

Balmain Juniors

We lost 2-1 but did some great defending and good passing and advancing play. The first MVP is Cara because of good clearance and passing.

For our second game against Leichhardt Jnrs the MVP was Oscar because he did some great tackling. We won 2-1 with two great goals from Cassius and Hamish D.

⁃ Ethan R

Balmain A

Balmain had two very hard fought matches. Both of which ended the opposite to what we would have hoped. Our first match was against Kegworth. The score was 3-1, an unfortunate loss. The player of the match was Sam, who scored a great goal and intercepted the other team’s play.

Our second match was against Annandale, we lost 3-0, another really annoying match for us. Henry was the player of the match, he was trying hard the whole match. Well done everyone in both matches.

⁃ Miles E

Balmain B

The balmain b team played Rozelle,

The score ended up being 1-0, I (Odin) scored a late goal in the second half to win us the game. We all fought very hard against Rozelle they were very defensive. Its to hard to pick one player of the match, so I think the entire team should get it because of how well we played.

- Odin

Balmain C

The Balmain team c played Nickelson St.

The score was 0-2. They scored 2 lucky goals that just got past our goalie. As a team we played pretty well together. The player of the match is Jayden as he played well in defence and tried really hard.

- Harvey

NETBALL

Balmain Juniors - Blueberries 🫐

Captain Anna B

We played Nicholson street Junior team and won 12 to 1. We had Arwen and Sharanya fill in because our team was short a player. Our team played very well.

MIP was Ivy because she played very well and improved a lot since last week.

MVP was Halle because she was very good at defending and there was no goal defence helping her in goal keeper in the last 10 minutes.

Balmain A

Balmain A v Orange Grove A 7-9

Captain: Eva K

it was a very close game today against Orange Grove A, it was a very intense the other team played incredibly well. While we tried our best we still lost.

The MVP goes to: Frederique for getting so many intersepts

The MiP goes to: Eloise because Eloise shot well and defended awesomely!

Balmain B

Balmain B v Birchgrove B 19-2

Captain: Rosie F

We all played really well. The highlights were our strong passes and our defence.

The MVP goes to: Natasha for an all-round great game.

The MIP goes to: Victoria for her great intercepts.

Balmain C

Balmain C v Kegworth C

Score 18 - 6 Balmain win

Captain: Annabel L

MVP: Arwen - She defended really well and had social awareness. She also grabbed the ball when the other team fumbled.

MIP: Jordan - She did really well when there was a ball toss and had a fast reaction. Today we won our game and although it was really hot, we defended well and scored a lot.

Boxing 🥊

Captains: Panya & Emily

Today we did floor and ladder drills and a game pool noodle. We pick Bryson and Jasper for being really good and listening.

Dance 🕺🏽

Captains: Izzy & Skye

We did our bear and crab, and we also did some activities to switch between bear and crab better. During the exercise we thought Elizabet was really enthusiastic. We also did the button game with banana and mango teams.

Yoga 🧘🏽‍♀️

Captains: Poppy and Vivienne BN

We chose Liya today because it was her first lesson and she was doing really well. Today we all got a card and there was a drum and we said what was important to us this week and our names. Then we also did partner poses and solo poses and then at the end we did a game.

We loved school sport today in the warm sun. We played a strategic game of relay Tic Tac Toe, followed by a new game of Bin Ball (cross between dodgeball and cricket). We spent the afternoon adding detail to our theme park creations and they’re slowly coming to life!

    K WHEAT(IES)!!!!!

K Wheat(ies) Jump into Term 3! Our amazing Kindergarten class, K Wheat(ies), have jumped right back into Term 3 with so much excitement! They've quickly gotten used to their old routines again and have dived right back into investigations. This term, we've spiced things up with some new and exciting investigation stations. One of the favourites is based on the much-loved book 'Rosie Revere, Engineer' by Andrea Beaty. The challenge? Make a flying machine that can carry mini-Rosie on a zip-line. How cool is that?!

This term K Wheat(ies) are learning all about procedural writing and having fun making play dough and other concoctions by following a recipe! We've even been using the beloved book 'Wombat Stew' as inspiration for discussions about ingredients, steps and methods. The funny faces Wheat(ies) pulled after pretending to eat the ewwy brewy wombat stew were priceless!

Our K Wheat(ies) are also loving our Life Skills classes. They're learning all about calming breathing techniques and mindfulness activities like yoga. Not only is this helping them to stay focused and relaxed in class, but it's also making them feel really good! Wheat(ies) also started Gymnastics this term and wow, are they summersaulting up a storm! It's fantastic to see them challenging themselves and having so much fun at the same time.

They're also still having a great time with our specialist teachers for PDHPE, art, STEAM, and library classes. We're super proud of how our K Wheat(ies) have started Term 3. They've certainly earned a huge high-five for all their hard work, creativity, and enthusiasm. Bring on the rest of the term - we can't wait to see what else they'll achieve!
