Principal's Report

Hello everyone!

There are many excited students practising their athletics skills in preparation for Thursday’s Athletics Carnival. MMPS will be heading down to Dixon Field in Gisborne to showcase our natural, athletic talents for all to see! If you are free to help out on the day please let your child’s teacher know. We do need more volunteers to help on the day, even if you’re only available for a short time we would love you to let us know.

The last week has seen a number of students and families affected by Gastroenteritis. Gastro is a serious infectious disease that can lead to significant health concerns. It is important that children who are showing signs and symptoms of Gastro are looked after at home and do not return to school within 48 hours of last symptoms showing.

All Australian year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students will be sitting the annual NAPLAN tests from next week. The NAPLAN tests will mostly be conducted online this year with minimal interruption to our regular school routines. If your child is sitting the NAPLAN tests, they will have brought home an information flyer with all relevant details on it. If you have any questions or concerns regarding NAPLAN please do not hesitate to get in touch.

We will be holding our first working bee of the year next Friday, the 15th of March. After the success of Term 4’s working bee FOS have organised a BBQ to help feed our busy workers on the day. The working bee will run from after school and in the same way as it did last year. This means that you can come into school before then and choose a job to do on the day. Photos and a short explanation will be on the whiteboard for you to select from. These working bees are so important in maintaining the safety and beauty of our wonderful school. FOS will also be holding a meeting tonight in the staffroom here at school at 7:30PM. Everyone is welcome even if you have not previously signed up to FOS.

It has been wonderful to see so many people put up their hands to be part of our school council elections. As we received more nominations than vacancies we will be going to a ballot. Towards the end of this week you will receive ballot papers along with a short blurb from each of the nominees explaining their suitability and reasons for nominating themselves. You will also receive instructions on how to cast your vote.

As the weather continues to be so pleasant we have been having our assemblies each Friday out in the outdoor eating space. It has been so lovely to see our Grade 6 leaders take on the duty of presenting assembly, they're already doing such a wonderful job. Our assemblies are at 3:00PM on Fridays and everyone is welcome to come along.

I finish today’s report with a wish that you all enjoy this coming long weekend and look after yourselves in the beautiful, but hot, weather!

Thanks, Joe.

House Carnival Reports

Wednesday 28th saw MMPS students head down to Sunbury Aquatic Centre for the District Swimming. We had a squad of 16, who all swam their hearts out! With an interesting day, given the school relocation, the students all came along excitedly and ready to compete. Well done to all those who competed, especially those who were out of their comfort zones and still gave it their all! A big thank you to Vicki and Mr Sonogan, as the day ran smoothly with their help and assistance!

This week, Thursday 7th March, is our whole school Athletics Carnival at Dixon Field. The foundation and grade 1-2 students will participate in running races and novelty events on the inside of the running track with Mrs Bowen and Mrs Krajewski. While the grade 3-6’s will complete a variety of field and running events in their allocated areas. These days cannot go ahead without our amazing helpers. If you’re available to assist with time keeping/place marshal on the day, could you please let myself know or respond via QKR! I would be truly grateful (choccies & treats to entice 😉)!

Thank you,

Jess Stone

School Reporter

Hi! I am Eliana Glen and I will be the School Reporter this term.

I will be writing in the Gisborne Gazette and the school newsletter.

If there are any students who would like to add anything to the school newsletter then come run it by me, and we can sit down and have a chat.

This week on Thursday there will be our 2024 Athletics Carnival. For the Foundation to year 2 students there will be sack races, egg and spoon races, hopping races and so much more fun activities. For the year 3s, 4s, 5s and 6s they were given options to run 1500 metre, 800 metre and 200 metre. Everyone will have to do Shot Put, Discus and 100 metre. It will be very hot so make sure you put on sunscreen, drink lots of water and bring a couple of water bottles, because there will be no place to fill up on water and last but not least the most important thing is to have FUN! SchoolsOUT! Is doing face painting of your house colour.

On Monday you don’t need to come to school because it’s a long weekend so stay home and have fun. On Friday the 8th of March there will be a Junior School Council meeting held by Henry Gray the Junior School Council leader and the supervision of Mr.Flynn.

Have a great week,

Eliana.
