Important Diary Dates

From the Principal

Hello all.

What a fantastic term we have had. Full of learning and fun!!  Just a few notes from me:

General Learning

Our focus on reading, maths and writing this term has gone very well. Consequently, our achievement data (fluency, comprehension and big ideas in number testing) has shown growth for all of our students. We will continue with this work and look forward to even more growth !

School Reports

School reports went home yesterday. If you haven't seen it yet, check your child's bag!! Please take the time to read the report and congratulate your child on their achievements. We always add a note around how you can support your child with their learning. Please give our suggestions a try. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to ask your child's class teacher.

Farewell Mr Falland

It is with mixed feelings that we farewell Louis Falland who has been teaching in one of our three Year 5 / 6 classes. Louis is moving on from working in Education and taking a job in another field.  Whilst it has been a difficult decision for him, as he will miss his class and has thoroughly enjoyed working at Nuriootpa Primary School, this is an opportunity that he cannot pass up. Louis has been an absolutely fantastic pickup for us at NPS. He is someone with  a wonderful sense of fun and much integrity, who role-modelled strong core values everyday.  We are very sad to see him go.

I will be working hard on finding a suitable replacement over the holidays. We wish Louis all the best on his new venture and look forward to him touching base with us from time to time.

I hope you are able to enjoy a lovely break from the pressures of the school week and may even be able to take some time yourself to spend time with your child(ren). Personally I am looking forward to some time spent reading, writing and walking, and am less looking forward to time spent cleaning and in the garden!

Have great holidays and see your children all back on July 21st!

Vicky

Farewell Mr Falland

Read a book

In our modern world, technology is a very important part of our day-to-day lives. As a lover of books and reading, this is sometimes a little difficult to navigate. While technology offers convenience and access to a vast array of information, reading books provides a unique and enriching experience that supports cognitive and emotional well-being. There are a large number of benefits that come from reading a book. I’ve included some below. The upcoming holidays might be a good opportunity to challenge your kids to read!

Reading a book as opposed to using technology offers several unique benefits:

  • Mindfulness and Relaxation: Reading a book can be a calming activity that promotes mindfulness and relaxation, providing a break from the fast-paced digital world.

  • Focus and Concentration: Books provide a distraction-free environment, allowing readers to focus and concentrate more deeply on the content.

  • Reduced Screen Time: Reading physical books helps reduce screen time, which can be beneficial for eye health and sleep quality.

  • Imagination and Creativity: Books encourage readers to use their imagination to visualise characters and settings, enhancing creativity.

  • Improved Comprehension: Many people find that they comprehend and retain information better when reading from a physical book compared to a screen.

  • Less Eye Strain: Reading from a book reduces the risk of digital eye strain associated with prolonged screen use.

Have a great holiday and read, read, read!

From the Wellbeing Leader

The Importance of Attendance

It’s been a busy term, with illness impacting staff and students. However, schools have a duty of care to make sure children attend school regularly.

Our school values every student and wants them to reach their full potential. Research shows that attendance at school all day everyday positively effects learning, wellbeing and life outcomes for our children. Learning is cumulative and it is disrupted if students miss school.

Effects of missing school include:

· gaps in knowledge from missed lessons

· missing social activities that build life skills

· missing class routines, important news, and excursions

· lower self-esteem and confidence

· school not being able to assess and support the student.

Did you realise, if your child is five minutes late to school twice a week, that equates to 1 ¼ days of missed instruction over the year?

Did you realise, if your child averages a day’s absence a week, that equates to two months missed instruction a year?

Did you realise, if your child averages a week’s absence every term, that equates to a year of missed instruction by the end of Year 10?

We understand that sometimes absences happen for unavoidable reasons. However, missing school often can affect your child’s learning, emotions, and social life. If you are struggling to get your child to school, please contact us and we can work together to overcome your child’s barriers to attendance and support them to engage in their learning.

Volunteer at NPS

Parent Volunteers

If you are able, Nuriootpa Primary welcomes any parents and carers who would like  to volunteer.  Parent and Carer Volunteers are a valued support base for our school, assisting staff to provide  a range of high quality opportunities to promote the learning, wellbeing and growth of students.

Some ways you can be involved may include:

·       Listen to Students read

·       Assistance on excursions and Camps

·       Helping out at School Events (eg Christmas Concert, Sports day and SAPSASA)

If you are interested in supporting the school in either of these,  please contact the Front Office and speak to Karen Brook on 8562 1040 to book in for an information night to be held early next term.

Please note: All volunteers need  a  WWCC (Working with Children Check) and RHAN (Responding to Harm and Neglect).  The School will support interested people in gaining these.
