Uniform Survey

Thank you to those parents that have taken the time to fill out the survey already. If you haven’t already replied to the survey please do so as soon as possible. Thank you.

CoRE Challenge

Congratulations are extended to the Year 5 class as they have once again come away with a win at the CoRE challenge competition. Last Tuesday saw the Five’s take part in a variety of challenges at the College that required the application of science, technology and mathematical knowledge to solve a variety of problems. What was also needed was a good dollop of common sense. Thankfully all St Mary’s students have this in spades and were able to apply them to the problems that were presented and achieved success, well done to you all.

See the special events section below for more details and photos from the day!!

Lost Property

The lost property box is over flowing. If your child is missing anything please come and check the box located in the disabled toilet. Any items left in the box after Friday of Week Five will be donated to the Uniform Shop secondhand stall.

Seniors Visit

Our Year Three/Four class visited the Seniors Centre yesterday. Once again, the children enjoyed spending time playing Snap, Connect 4 and an oldie but a goodie: Pick up sticks. Many of the Seniors remarked that it had been years since they had played Pick up sticks!

Grandparents Day

Mrs Riethmuller managed to produce another quality Prayer Service; there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. It was wonderful to see so many Grandparents spend time with their grandchildren.

See below in the special events section for photos.

P&F

We have our second P&F meeting for the term in the Library at 6.30pm Monday. All are welcome to attend.

All Saints Day

Likewise, all are welcome to attend the School Mass next Friday at 9am. The Mass will be presented by the Pre-Primary class.

SAC Update - from Marie Bartlett

The School Advisory Council (SAC) met on Monday the 14th of October.

Key items addressed at our meeting included:

  • Church Car Park
  • Basketball Courts
  • School Gardens
  • 2025 Staffing Positions
  • SAC vacancies
  • School uniform
  • Canteen

This is also a reminder that the role of the SAC is to support the Principal to fulfil their responsibilities in leading the Catholic Identity, Education, Community and Stewardship functions of the Catholic School in pursuit of CEWA's vision to be Christ-centered and child-focused. The SAC's purpose is an advisory role not a decision making role: we offer suggestions and ideas and the Principal takes this into account when making his final deliberations on any decisions that need to be made.

I stayed up all night wondering where the sun went, and then it dawned on me.

God Bless

Mr H

Special Events

CoRE Challenge

On Tuesday the Year Fives attended the CoRE mining challenge at Merredin College. The students competed against other Wheatbelt schools to build their own pit, highway and mill. After the construction, they had to race to extract their ore from the mine, transport it on a truck and process it at the mill. Our two teams competed well and finished in 1st and 7th place. It was a fun day that provided them with an insight into a potential career in the WA resources sector.

Grandparent's Morning

Thank you to all our Grandparents and other important members in our students lives who came along this morning for our Grandparents Morning. There was a lovely turn out in all the classrooms for our open-morning and the students enjoyed showing their Grandparents what they had been learning and engaging in some fun activities with them.

Mrs Riethmuller and the Year Six students then lead the school through a lovely Liturgy in the Hall, which was then followed by a delicious morning tea.

Thank you to everyone that came along for the morning, thank you to our wonderful Grandparents for playing such an important role in our students lives and thank you to Mrs Riethmuller for putting together such a successful morning.

Other News & Important Dates

Viterra & St Mary’s School Merredin P&F

Viterra and the St. Mary’s Primary School Merredin P & F have agreed to a sponsorship program for the coming season and into the future. The Viterra Sponsorship Program commenced in 2010 as a way of helping WA grain growing communities. Since its inception, Viterra has donated over $1 million to WA grain growing sporting clubs & community groups. Viterra is very proud of what the program has achieved over this period. We are very pleased to be able to contribute to WA grain growing communities that support us, knowing that our sponsorship goes some way towards the viability of rural WA clubs and their communities – it also gives growers a sense that they too have assisted with their club’s finances. We appreciate any support you can offer Viterra by spreading the word amongst your members and the community.

Here is how it works:

Viterra will donate $0.20 per tonne to the St. Mary’s Primary School Merredin P & F for every tonne of grain delivered against contracts sold to Viterra.

At the time of contracting, the grower or their consultant MUST identify that they wish the contract to be a part of the sponsorship agreement with the St. Mary’s Primary School Merredin P & F. Every 12 months we will forward your club the funds accumulated against the contracts covered by the agreement.

For contract pricing of any grain, or if you wish to subscribe to the Viterra ‘sms’ or ‘email’ pricing service, contact Rob Haddrill, Tim Giumelli or Matt Stenhouse in the Viterra WA office.
