St Joseph's Catholic Primary School Wandal Newsletter

19 July 2023

Bernadette Brennan - Principal

It’s time to review the Media Consent you have provided for your child. You would have completed the Media Consent at the time of enrolment and quite possibly haven’t updated it since. We require every family to update this consent in Parent Lounge. The consent covers four elements:

1. External Displays, Website and Promotional material for School, RCE and Queensland Catholic Education Commission.

2. Social Media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) for School, RCE and / or the Queensland Catholic Education Commission.

3. In local, regional and state media outlets representing the School

4. I/we consent to the school sharing my/our personal information (limited to name, address, telephone numbers, occupation) to its associated supporting groups (e.g. Parents & Friends' Association, Parents Network and sporting and cultural support groups), and my son’s/daughter's details to the – School Past Pupils’ Association when he/she leaves the school, if applicable.

You may answer Yes on No to each question. Your consent does not have to be the same for each element. Families are required to log in to Parent Lounge accounts and update these. Please see the included step-by-step instructions to assist with this process.

If you’re having problems with Parent Lounge, please contact the office for assistance (49948230.)

This Friday, the P and F are holding a morning meeting. We hope this may provide an opportunity for more families to come along and listen to what is being shared. The P and F welcome all families in the school to join in and be involved in the life of the school. Please join us at 8:00 am in the Library.

The School Board is a collaborative ministry that works in an advisory capacity with the Principal to promote, advance and improve the vision and mission of the school. The School Board has a number of roles and responsibilities that can enhance and strengthen the partnership between families and the school. The School Board seeks to promote the Catholic Ethos of the school in partnership with the parish and wider community. The members of the Board are generous people from our community who are willing to share their gifts, talents and leadership as guided by The Model Constitution for Catholic Education Boards in the Diocese of Rockhampton. Over the coming weeks, we will introduce you to our School Board and share a little about each of them.

 Have a great week

 Mrs Bernadette Brennan

Gospel Prayer Reflection:

The seed is like the word of God wanting to be planted in us. How can we become the ‘good ground’ so it can grow in us? The parable reminds us that even if we deliberate where we ‘sow the seeds’ of God’s message, we can’t always control how people will receive it.

Sacrament of Confirmation

This week a group of candidates and a small contingent of students from St Joseph’s Wandal received the Sacrament of Confirmation at St Joseph’s Cathedral. We continue to pray for these candidates and their families as they prepare for their First Holy Communion.

Spirit of Catholic Education Awards

As next week is Catholic Education week, I want to take this opportunity to congratulate Miss Emma Murphy, who was nominated for a Spirit of Catholic Education award. Thank you for your commitment and dedication to our school and Catholic Education. We look forward to acknowledging your contributions on Friday, 28 July, during our whole school assembly.

It would be remiss of me not to acknowledge all the St Joseph’s Wandal staff who each day contribute to our community of faith, hope, and love. Without the staff, the school would consist of empty buildings. Without the students there would be no need for staff. A special thank you to all staff for the invaluable work you do each day, and I appreciate your support in making all things possible for our school community. In the words of the Gospel writer of Luke, “Faith it does not make things easy; it makes them possible. Luke 1:37

Catholic Education Week

Next week several activities are planned to celebrate Catholic Education Week. Be sure to pop in and view the class window or hallway displays that highlight the importance of Catholic Education Week. We invite the Saint Joseph’s Wandal school community to join in the celebrations with us.

On Monday at 8.35 am next week, we will gather in the Hall to begin the day with a special prayer celebration led by Year 4 Gold.

Learner Dispositions

For the next few weeks, we are investigating what it means to be a resourceful learner.  We have been using our classroom posters to start discussions.

Another way we are unpacking being resourceful, is using the ‘3 Hows’ Strategy.  These are some of the questions we can ask ourselves to monitor how resourceful we are.

Celebrating Learning

We are halfway through another week of learning here at Wandal.  What exciting things has your child been talking about this week?  Was it something in science?  Or a picture book that was shared?  Was it something creative?  Or maybe some technology?  Zach in Prep made this wonderful pinboard to share his learning about NAIDOC week.  Well done, Zach!
