Rozelle Public School Newsletter

TERM THREE WEEK SIX

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Rozelle is a place where Aboriginal children learned, played and celebrated their culture for thousands of years on this beautiful, natural land. As we learn, play and celebrate together on this land, we honour the Wangal people of the Eora nation and pay our respects to elders both past, present and emerging.

BOOK WEEK PARADE

Last Friday, we celebrated Book Week 2024 with our annual parade along Darling Street which was an incredible celebration of creativity, imagination and the love of reading. This year’s theme ‘Reading is Magic’ truly came to life with students and teachers embracing the spirit of the event with a vibrant display of literary characters, from classic favourites like Harry Potter and Alice in Wonderland to contemporary heroes.

A big thank you to all the parents and carers who helped make this event a success, lining the streets of the parade with friends and locals who were all out enjoying the sunshine, cheering on our kids and for encouraging a love of reading at home. We are grateful for your support and for helping to make this event such a memorable experience for everyone involved. A big thanks to all the staff who dressed up and joined in the fun, Alex Nicholls for her organisation of the event, Claire Rolland for compiling the playlist and Mike Bancks for his MC skills on the day.

ySafe ONLINE SAFETY HUB

Students from Early Stage 1 to Year 6 attended the Cyber Safety workshop last week and all staff reported that students found the program engaging and informative. Staff felt that the most relevant element for students was that they learnt about the importance of protecting PPI (Private Personal Information) and strategies for staying safer online.

The parent webinar provided practical advice and information to parents as they navigate parenting in the digital age. Here is a link to the recording of the webinar for families who were not able to attend: bit.ly/3XfvK8a

As part of the education package, ySafe provides the community with access to their Parent Cyber Safety Hub, which is full of information and resources that parents are able to access: bit.ly/4cynSTz

SCHOOL SUPPORT RECOGNITION WEEK

At Rozelle this week we celebrated our school administrative and support staff (SASS) and other non-teaching staff, and the invaluable role they play in keeping our school running smoothly. They include Poppy, Amanda, Sakiko, Amanda P and Matt in the office, the student learning support officers include Tanya, Darcey, Mika, Trent, Samantha, Kate and Dallas our General Assistant.

We want to acknowledge the incredible contributions they make to school life whether it’s supporting learners in the classroom, greeting our school visitors, managing essential school finances or maintaining school grounds, these colleagues deliver outstanding service and support to our teachers, students, parents and carers and the wider community. Thank you, you make a big difference in our school every single day !

SCHOOL LEADERS INITIATIVE

"ALL STUDENTS SHOULD BE WEARING A SCHOOL HAT"

I am very proud to introduce ‘Hannah the Hat’ a school leader initiative designed by Eliza P (6 Raphael) to help create a culture where wearing a school hat is seen as cool, necessary and part of being a responsible student. The focus is on educating students to protect themselves from harmful UV rays, prevent sun burn, protect their eyes and reduce the risks of sun exposure. Promoting wearing a school hat as a part of the school uniform with Spring a few days away is a timely initiative.

We are asking parents to support this initiative especially coming into the warmer weather and reinforce the benefits of wearing a hat at home.

Teachers are committed to wearing a hat when they are out on playground duty and with the school leaders consistently wearing their hats when outside, this should set a positive example for all students. You may also notice these posters around the school that are promoting this initiative. Congratulations to the leadership team!
