Leadership News

A message from Julie

The term seems to be moving quickly, with the first four weeks already completed. The feel like they have flown by!

It was wonderful to meet and connect with many of you at our recent acquaintance night. It was great to hear your perspective on how well the students are settling in and that they are excited by the learning that is happening in their classrooms.

The dates to remember section of the newsletter has been updated with all of our Pupil Free Days. Our first Pupil Free Day falls on Tuesday March 11, directly following public holiday. On this day, all staff will be undertaking professional learning on Mathematics. We will share some of our learning in the next newsletter in week 8. We thank you for your support on this day.

Our Governing Council AGM is being held on Tuesday, March 4 in the Dernancourt School Staffroom at 7pm. All are welcome. At this meeting, we will be presenting our 2024 Annual Report and elect our Governing Council for 2025.

Further information can be found in the Governing Council Special Edition newsletter sent to families via Audiri on February 14.

Swimming week is rapidly approaching, with students looking forward to their daily swimming lessons. Swimming lessons are a part of our health and PE curriculum, are designed to help students develop a range of knowledge, skills and understandings about: water confidence, water safety, survival in the water, rescue of others and the basics of swimming technique. Please speak with your child’s teacher if you have any questions about the swimming program.

Kiss n drop zone

A reminder that the Kiss and Drop zone by the early years gate is a 2-minute parking area only between 8am - 9am and 2pm - 4pm on school days. This parking area is provided to support the safe arrival and departure of our students. Drivers must not leave vehicles unattended.

It has been reported the school, that on many occasions, vehicles are left unattended, making it difficult for families to drop off and pick up children safely.

The Tea Tree Gully Council are aware of the issue and have increased the monitoring of this area. Expiation notices may be issued.

Please also refrain from u-turning in this area. A solid white line on the road indicates that it is unsafe to do so.

If you need to leave your vehicle to collect your children, please park further from the school where longer term parking is permitted.  Thank you all for helping to keep our students and school community members safe.

Materials and Services Charge Discount

As part of the 2024-25 State Budget cost of living measures, eligible families with school-aged children will receive a $200 discount per child on their public school’s materials and services charge for 2025. This is double the discount provided for 2022, 2023 and 2024.   You do not need to do anything to claim the discount, it will automatically be applied by the school.

Every Day Counts!

Every Day Counts!

EVERY DAY COUNTS! Missed school adds up to a lot of missed education. Attendance rates since Covid times have not yet recovered to pre Covid (normal) rates across South Australia. We are working to have children at school every day. Every day matters. Please let the school know via the Audiri app, a phone call or Seesaw message if your child needs to be away and if it is for sickness or for family reason. All unexplained absences require follow up by teacher/school. An exemption signed by the Principal is required for family holidays of 3 or more days. Every day counts!

Garden Club News

We finally had some cooler weather for our first Garden Club for 2025. Thank you to Willow J4, Eugene J3, Conor P2, Riley P7 and Holly P10 who enjoyed a very productive time working in the garden. Our apple trees were very appreciative of the watering and we dug up lots of carrots that were planted last year. We’re hoping the broccoli seeds we planted today will grow as well as the carrots.
