Principal's Report

Dear JPS Families,

The weather has begun to turn, and we all started pulling out our winter clothing this week. Sarah did a roaring trade (thanks Sarah!) in the uniform shop this morning, as everyone remembered that they'd grown out of last year's jumpers. A friendly reminder to make sure new jumpers are labeled so that we can easily return them to their owners when they inevitably end up strewn across the playground mid-soccer game.

I'd like to say a special thanks to our P&C committee and volunteers for what has been a big few weeks of support and fundraising. They sourced and organised gifts for the Mother's Day stall carefully, making sure that you will not receive your fourth consecutive Mother's Day mug. It was lovely to see your children excitedly choosing presents and deliberating over what you would like. The P&C are always on the look out for new volunteers - get in touch if you are keen to get involved. They're a friendly and welcoming bunch who appreciate the extra hands!

On that note, wishing all of the JPS mums, grandmas, aunties, sisters and other motherly figures a lovely Mother's Day! I hope that on Sunday your coffee is hot, your jobs are minimal and your sleep in is long.

Kind Regards,

Bec Gavin

Week In View

Dear School Community

We held our annual Mother's Day stall on Tuesday and had a fantastic time helping the kids select a gift for that special person in their lives.

It would not have been possible without our volunteers. Special thanks to:

  • Erica Downes, Sarah Thatcher, Julie Downes, Peta Renton & Sarah Terry for making up the gift packs.
  • Cathy, Anne-Marie, Alex Burke, Julie Downes & Sarah Terry for distributing the gifts at the stall.
  • The Niblock family for their wonderful earrings.
  • Pete & Owen Swann for creating and donating some fantastic stake signs for the plants.
  • The Sirianni family for their very generous donation of items to use at the stall.
And to all of the families that purchased gifts. We really appreciate your support.

Kind regards,

Jamberoo P&C Association

Class Spotlight

Wombarra

This week in Wombarra, we have been very busy with lots of hands-on learning and fun activities.

In maths, we have been learning about two-dimensional shapes. The children explored shapes by building them with playdough, which helped them understand each shape's properties creatively. We also looked at pictures from our environment, such as an eye and a book, and worked together to sort them into their correct two-dimensional shape groups.

We have also been working on a special project growing grass. With our buddies, we created a little “house” to place at the back of our container and used paddle pop sticks to build a picket fence. After adding the seeds, we have already started to see the grass grow, which has been very exciting for everyone.

In English, we are learning about verbs and nouns. The children have been practising identifying action words and naming words through different activities. We have also learnt three new digraphs: sh, ch, and th, and have been working on recognising these sounds in words.

Bimbala

Bimbala have been busy exploring the different ways data can be displayed as a 1:1 representation. Students have been asking and answering questions about a range of existing data displays, including class pets, favourite ice cream flavours and favourite colours. These conversations have sparked thoughtful discussions about what data can tell us and how we can organise information clearly.

This week, students created their own data displays by sorting counters into categories. They worked carefully to include the key features of a data display including clear labels, consistent symbols and accurate counting. We are now focusing on adding precision to our displays and will soon be conducting our own surveys to collect data that is meaningful to our class.

Our new dance unit has also been a highlight. The focus of the unit is celebrations and how dance can be used to communicate feelings and ideas. Tuesday afternoons in the hall have become a favourite time of the week as Bimbala practise their moves, respond to different styles of music and learn how movement can express their ideas. Students have enjoyed sharing the celebrations that are important to their families and showing off their dance moves.

Overall, we have had another great fortnight in Bimbala!

Walabi

Thank you to Walabi students for their continued engagement in our Great White Shark hybrid text in English. We are finishing up the unit this week with some narrative writing about seals after having written an informative shark text.

In mathematics, we are finishing up our measurement unit with some measurement 'challenges' which require students to show creative and critical thinking in their responses.

The class has LOVED doing Typing Tournament (the website our school has subscribed to to support students learning to touch-type) and are really improving at getting logged in to the laptop and into Typing Tournament. Very exciting!! See the photos of students trying hard to keep all their fingers on the home row and use the correct finger for each letter.

Excitement is building for Dance Festival, which is coming up in Week 7. I've included some photos of students' big rehearsal day on Wednesday when they were in the hall with props. They were so excited! Thank you, families, for supporting your child as they take on this challenge. And a BIG thank you to Mrs Green and Mrs Mahoney for their marvellous leadership of this event! I have my ticket booked on the Wednesday in Week 6 to go see them on stage. Please see the email from the school regarding buying tickets from Merrigong if you would like to purchase tickets to see the show but haven't yet purchased them.
