Dear Families,
It’s taken more that 10 years for Paula and me to coordinate our Book Week costumes. We probably should have thought of it earlier. I think Mr and Mrs Twit is quite fitting. It was great to see some fantastic costumes today.
Book Fair
As part of book week, we have had a book fair this week. The middle room in the Bunbunarrik Building is open again from 8:30 – 9:00am on Friday morning. Families will be able to look through and purchase books using Eftpos and Cash. This is a fundraiser for the school and proceeds go to books for classroom libraries and the school library.
Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey
The Parent/Guardian/Caregiver survey is open for families to complete. While previously a random sample of approximately 30 per cent of parents/caregivers/guardians have been selected to participate, for the last two years, all families are invited to participate in the survey. Families have been emailed a link with a school PIN to complete the survey. The survey is open until Friday September 8th.
Please take the time to complete the survey as your opinions are important to us and will contribute to the future management and organisation of our school.
Family Holidays
I think it is wonderful that people can get out after a couple really tough years. I would ask families to let us know if you are planning a family holiday. We can put together a plan to support kids with some learning tasks that suit the student and the holiday. An agreed plan also allows us to mark the time away as an ‘approved absence – family holiday’. If you are planning time away, please contact your classroom teacher and give us a bit of notice.
Curriculum Days
On Monday, at School Council, we confirmed that the remainder of our Curriculum Days would be used in Term 4. These dates are Monday October 2nd (First Day of Term 4), Monday 6th and Wednesday 8th November. These dates were chosen to have the least impact on families and provide the most benefit for teachers. Hopefully days adjacent to long weekends and holidays make it easier for families to plan.
Soup for Schools
In the last few years the Mansfield Respond Project has supported Soup for Schools. Our students are fortunate to receive soup made by Mansfield Secondary School students as part of the Respond Projects heathy eating program. This year, Grade 2 and Grade 3 students have been able to have soup over the past couple of weeks.
150 Year Old Well, In Bottom Terrace!
Two weeks ago, some students were playing football on Bottom Terrace when Jack’s foot made a small hole in the grass. After a quick fence off some investigation, and some earthmoving equipment, we discovered a well. The well was lined with locally made bricks and was likely the water source for the original school building that faced Highett St. Have a look at the photos attached.
Students Arriving Before 8:30am
Please ensure you do not drop your children at school before 8:30am. Whilst there are staff at school before 8:30am, this is important planning time and staff cannot be supervising students. We do have staff on Yard Duty from 8:30am until the start of the school day. If students arrive at school before 8:30am, they will be asked to sit in the office and families will receive a phone call. Thank you for your assistance with this.
Like always, please get in touch with us with any questions or concerns. Call or email your classroom teacher, call the front office or email me tom.macmunn@education.vic.gov.au.
Have a great weekend.
Take Care,
Tom
