Drummoyne Public School

Term 4 Week 1 Newsletter - Friday 17 October 2025

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Dear Drummoyne PS Community,

Welcome back to Term 4!

It’s always a busy and exciting time as we head towards the end of the school year. This term we’ll be welcoming our new 2026 Kindergarten students for their transition sessions, celebrating the end of year with special class and whole-school events, and recognising our Year 6 students as they prepare for high school with their farewell celebrations and Market Day. We also look forward to our Presentation Assemblies, where we’ll acknowledge student achievements across the year. It’s shaping up to be a wonderful and memorable term for our school community.

Senior Playground Equipment Project

We’re excited to share that our new senior playground equipment project has been approved! The play area will be developed on the site of the large demountable, currently occupied by Gowrie, which the DoE  has scheduled for removal. Once removed, the building will be refurbished and made ready to be redeployed to schools in need, particularly those affected by natural disasters such as bushfires or floods.

This exciting project has been made possible through the generous support and funding of our P&C, together with school funds and a NSW State Government grant. We can’t wait to see this area transformed into a vibrant and fun play space for our senior students. Planning for the new playground is well underway with staff and students completing a survey this week on the types of equipment they’d most like to see in the space. I’ll be sharing results from these surveys with the P&C for consultation at next Tuesday’s October meeting.

October P&C Meeting: 2025 NAPLAN Results Analysis

On that note, I encourage you to attend the October P&C meeting next Tuesday night at 7:30pm, where I will also be sharing an analysis of this year’s NAPLAN results and explaining how these insights will help inform our school improvement plans moving forward. Coming along to a P&C meeting and/or joining the P&C is a great opportunity to stay connected with the school, hear about exciting projects and contribute to discussions, and decisions, that benefit all our students.

Regards,

John Nguyen

THIS WEEK AT DPS

MP for a day

On Tuesday I went to NSW Parliament in the city and met Stephanie di Pasqua, state member for Drummoyne. The first thing we did was go to the bear pit to watch question time. Stephanie told me that they call it the bear pit because the members fight like bears, and boy, they did! It was so crazy that the member for Holsworthy got thrown out, on her birthday!!

After question time Stephanie took me and my parents to the Strangers dining room which is called that because there is a member’s dining room, which is only for members of parliament and the strangers dining room for the general public, so you can go have lunch there too!!

But something you don’t get if you go is a behind the scenes tour of NSW parliament, places where only members can go; the rooftop garden, Stephanie’s office, even places members generally don’t go like Mr speaker’s office and dining room. There was some wonderful artwork around the entry, which was on level seven!!

Then we sat in Stephanie’s office and I asked her some questions I wrote down the night before, but Stephanie basically answered them all on the tour without me having to even ask them!!

When the day was over, and we were outside NSW parliament, Stephanie di Pasqua asked me if I could write about my experience of being MP for Drummoyne for the day and send it to her, then she would write and deliver a speech about me and it would be recorded digitally and in one of the many parliament history books and it would be in NSW parliament forever!!

OFFICE NEWS

Absence Notifications

Regular school attendance is important for your child’s learning and social development. If your child is absent from school, you must ensure that you provide the school with a written explanation.

How to submit an absence notification

You can submit your child’s absence through the School Bytes Parent App or by email. We are no longer using Audiri.

The School Bytes Parent Portal allows parents to view all their children in one portal and enables parents to provide details of a planned absence, if the absence details are known in advance - for example; to report an illness or a scheduled medical appointment.

Parents can also provide a response for any unexplained student absences that have been recorded by the school.

Late arrival or early departure

Partial absences cannot be submitted on the School Bytes Parent App.  Parents must come to the office and sign their child/ren in or out of school.

Extended leave

Families are encouraged to travel during school holidays. If travel during school term is necessary, you can only submit up to 9 days leave on the School Bytes Parent App.

If travelling for 10 days or more, you will need to complete an Application to leave - travel You can now complete the form online through schoolbytes with your travel itinerary or flight details.
