Silent Auction – Bid Now for Amazing Prizes!

It has been incredible to see our P&C Sponsorship Committee working tirelessly to secure tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of prizes for this year’s silent auction. Their hard work means our school community can look forward to an extraordinary range of items up for grabs.

One of the standout prizes this year is truly priceless – a “Day with our MP” experience, where one lucky student will spend the day with our State Member, Stephanie Di Pasqua. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for one of our students to gain a unique insight into the world of politics and leadership.

Bidding for all silent auction items is open now, and all winners will be announced on the afternoon of the fete. Don’t miss your chance – start bidding today using the link below and help support our school!

Fete Accompli? Not Without You!

Our fete is almost here and to make it a success, we need plenty of helping hands. The fete isn’t just a fundraiser – it’s a celebration of our school spirit, a chance to connect as a community and an opportunity to give your children a day they’ll never forget.

Whether you’re a BBQ master, a cake connoisseur, a ride-ticket wrangler, or just happy to lend a hand setting up or packing down, every bit of help makes a huge difference.

This event is one of the most important on our school calendar and it simply wouldn’t happen without the support of our wonderful parent community. If you haven’t already, please sign up using the link below and be part of making this Sunday a day to remember!

https://signup.zone/dps-fete

To top things off, after a full day of fun and fundraising, I’ll be cooling off in the only way that counts – in the dunk tank! Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Regards,

John Nguyen

Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition regional final

Congratulations to Ryan who represented our school at the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition regional final.

Even though he may not have won, he was very impressive and a number of parents came up to him to tell him how much they enjoyed listening to him. The judges feedback was that both his prepared and impromptu speeches had "sophisticated ideas". Such a great experience for him.

Debate #5

This week DPS debated against Birchgrove Public School. The topic was ‘The voting age should be lowered to 16.’

The affirmative team, the Abbotts were the away team, with Aliya as 1st speaker, Maeve 2nd speaker, David 3rd speaker and Grace, team advisor. They argued that 16 year-olds can learn to drive, work full-time, serve in the armed forces, pay income taxes, get married, join political parties, and can be charged with criminal offences so it’s fair they have a say in how the country is run, especially as they are affected by political decisions.

The Frasers were the home team. Claire was 1st speaker, Oliver was 2nd speaker, 3rd speaker was Delilah and the team advisor was Isaac. As the negative, they argued that in Australia,16-year-olds are still legally considered minors who don’t have the emotional maturity to make important decisions such as choosing the government. They also maintained that it would be a costly exercise and that public opinion doesn't support the change.

Well done to both teams on their convincing wins.

A big thank you to Grace’s dad, Michael for providing transport for the away team. Also, thanks to chairperson Ashton and timekeepers Charlotte and Hamilton.

Ethics class online information session - Thursday 4th September

Ethics classes are weekly discussion-based lessons for students who don’t attend Special Religious Education (Scripture).

In these classes, students explore topics such as fairness, honesty, kindness, and making good decisions - among many others. With over 80 different topics, there’s always something new to think about and discuss. They learn to listen to others, think carefully about different ideas and reasons, and share their views in a respectful and supportive space.

We’re holding a 1-hour online information session for anyone interested in finding out more:

6 - 7 pm, Thursday, 4 September 2025 Click here to register and receive your link: 🔗 https://events.humanitix.com/empower-young-minds-primary-ethics-webinar-sept-2025

In the session you'll:

  • See what an ethics class looks like in action
  • Have your questions answered
  • Hear from current volunteer ethics teachers
  • Learn about our free, comprehensive training and support

Ethics classes (officially called Special Education in Ethics) can be held at schools when trained volunteers are available. At Drummoyne Primary School there are currently eight volunteer ethics teachers helping to make this possible.

Whether you're simply curious, considering becoming a volunteer, or seeking a deeper understanding of what happens in ethics classes, this session is designed for you.

For more information, please get in touch with Helen Kerr-Roubicek kerrroubicekhelen@gmail.com

Premier’s Reading challenge – Last Chance!

The Premier’s Reading Challenge ends tonight! Students must have their reading logs completed by midnight tonight, Friday 29th August!

We currently have 366 students who will be receiving their PRC certificates later this year. There are a number of students who are so close but need a final nudge to get them over the edge. Please encourage your children to log on and update their reading logs to include all the books they have read this year if they haven’t quite completed the challenge.

Students in years 3 to 6 must log their own reading on the PRC website.

The easiest way for students to log their reading is by going to their student portal and clicking on the Premier’s Reading Challenge icon.

Kindy to year 2 students have had their reading logs updated by Mr Neufeld.

OFFICE NEWS

Absence Notifications

Regular school attendance is important for your child’s learning and social development. If your child is absent from school, you must ensure that you provide the school with a written explanation.

How to submit an absence notification

From Term 3 2025, our school will begin using the School Bytes Parent Portal to help manage student absences. You can submit your child’s absence through the School Bytes Parent App or by email. We are no longer using Audiri.

The School Bytes Parent Portal allows parents to view all their children in one portal and enables parents to provide details of a planned absence, if the absence details are known in advance - for example; to report an illness or a scheduled medical appointment.

Parents can also provide a response for any unexplained student absences that have been recorded by the school.

Late arrival or early departure

Partial absences cannot be submitted on the School Bytes Parent App.  Parents must come to the office and sign their child/ren in or out of school.

Extended leave

Families are encouraged to travel during school holidays. If travel during school term is necessary, you can only submit up to 9 days leave on the School Bytes Parent App.

If travelling for 10 days or more, you will need to complete an Application to leave - travel You can now complete the form online through schoolbytes with your travel itinerary or flight details.

Please keep your children at home if they are unwell

To help protect the health of students and staff, we remind you to please keep children at home if they are showing cold or flu-like symptoms.

We understand that some children may have symptoms that are not contagious - in these cases, we may request a medical certificate confirming that your child is fit to return to school.
