Principal's Message

It is wonderful to see our school’s achievement in photos over the last 4 weeks. Hopefully you have caught up with all the wonderful activities and success stories  on Edgeworth Heights Facebook page, your child’s seesaw page and Audiri App (was Skoolbag).

Recently, all families received a copy of the Term 3 newsletter for their child’s stage. It will have all the information that you may be wondering about. If there is something else, we can add or suggestions to support communication between school and home in the Stage Newsletter please let us know.

Parent interviews are in Week 7 (30th August). Please make the time to come and meet your child’s class teacher to review their progress and ask questions about the Semester 1 reports. I ask you to be mindful that we have only allocated a short catch-up time to allow for as many parents as possible to speak to the teacher. If you need a longer meeting at another time, please contact the school through phone or email.

I look forward to meeting our ’ “DUGS” on the 1st of September. Thank you to Mrs Mayne and Miss Radford for organising this event. It was also wonderful to see so many families supporting our students in their Wakakirri performance on Wednesday. Edgeworth Heights students shone! I was very proud. A huge congratulation to Mrs McQuillan, Mrs Armstrong, Miss Field, Miss Carney and Mr Frizell for your passion and dedication to creative and practical arts and giving students the opportunity to experience and have special memories in primary school.

Year 5 head to Canberra next week. Some of them have told me they have already packed. I would like to acknowledge the teachers taking the time away from their families to provide the Year 5 students this opportunity.

This term our school will be going through an external validation process. It is where we have a close look at our strengths and areas that we could strengthen. Staff have worked in teams to review focus areas such as Teaching, Learning and Leadership. An external panel meet with us on the 19th September to give us feedback on our submission. It is a great opportunity to celebrate as well as review what we do as a school and the systems and process we have to support student’s learning and wellbeing. Feedback from parents, students and staff also is an important component of our evidence collection. The Tell Them From Me Survey for parents will be coming out in Term 4 and we rely on parents responses to support moving forward to provide the best education and school experience for our students.

Make the most of the awesome moments.

Stranger Danger

It is always important to revisit the topic of Stranger Danger with our children. In class, teachers focus on this topic every term.  Every year, in Term 4  we have  a whole school focus for  "The  Day for Daniel".

An excellent resource for families is the website Safety 4 Kids. https://www.safety4kids.com.au/safety-zone/stranger-danger

We highly recommend to parents to check out this website to help our children understand and have strategies around Stranger Danger.

Education Week

Education Week is an annual celebration of NSW public education and the achievements of our schools, teachers, and students. This year celebrates 175 years of public education in NSW.

Every week is Education Week at EHPS. We love sharing our learning moments with our community on Seesaw, in our school newsletter and on our school Facebook page. Each term we love to welcome our parents into our classrooms with our Learning @ EHPS days. We look forward to many more community events this year highlighting our amazing students and their achievements.

Each class has showcased what learning looks like in their classroom. You can find these posters on our school fence and attached to this post. Happy Education Week!

Student Leave Applications

Regular attendance at school is essential to assist students to maximise their potential. Schools, in partnership with parents, are responsible for promoting the regular attendance of students. At EHPS we regularly review student attendance and understand that there are occasions in which your child cannot attend. These occasions may include family holidays.

If you intend on going on a family holiday that will be 5 school days or longer, we ask that families complete a leave application from the office. This will be signed by the principal and marked appropriately in the roll.

For leave less than 5 days, please contact the school to inform us of the type and duration.

Wakakirri

What a night we had at Wakakirri. Thankyou to all the amazing students and teachers who have dedicated their time for this spectacular performance and to the families who supported the kids through practices and cheering us on.

We proudly came home with three awards:

- Spirit of Wakakirri for sportsmanship

- Lead cast award for performance in dancing and drama

- ensemble award for overall performance Well done everyone

We’d also like to thank our sponsors (Sam Taylor - TaylorHedley and Newcastle House Levelling) your support means so much to us!!!!

Sugarloaf Community Of Schools (SCOS) Cultural Day

In Week 2 our 3-6 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students attended West Wallsend High School for a cultural day with our community of schools (Barnsley Public School, West Wallsend Public School, West Wallsend High School & Wakefield School). They had a wonderful day engaging with culture from drafting a community of schools Acknowledgment of Country, participating in art, weaving, playing traditional games, learning language, and having fun dancing. Our students loved joining with other schools and represented our school with pride. We are looking forward to WWHS visiting our school later this term to engage with our K-2 students.
