Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we move into the latter part of Term 3, I’d like to acknowledge the continued commitment of our students, staff, and families in maintaining high standards across all areas of school life.

Upcoming Mock Exams

Next week, our Year 10 and Year 12 students will undertake their final Mock Exams in preparation for the National Examinations. We wish them focus and confidence as they consolidate their learning and demonstrate their readiness.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences for Year 9 and Year 11 are scheduled next week. These meetings are a valuable opportunity to discuss student progress and strengthen our home-school partnership.

Thank you to all Year 9 parents who attended yesterday’s information session in the Secondary Library regarding the upcoming Term 4 trip to Cairns. If any families were unable to attend, please feel free to make an appointment with Mr Neville for further details.

Independence Day – Thursday 11th September

Please note that the school bus service will **not** operate on Thursday 11th September due to our Independence Day celebrations. Parents and carers are kindly asked to make alternative transport arrangements for this day.

Farewell to Mr Homoka Ganiga

We extend our sincere thanks to Mr Homoka Ganiga, who has concluded his tenure as Business Manager at Lae International School. We appreciate his contributions and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

The school’s financial operations are currently overseen by our Senior Accountant, Ms Pukari Nengabo who is responsible for managing finances and leading the finance team.

Teaching and Learning Remains Our Core Focus

While preparations are underway for Independence Day,  assemblies and other events, I want to reassure families that teaching and learning remain our central focus. Specialist lessons and core curriculum content continue to be delivered with rigour and consistency right through to the end of term.

Thank you for your ongoing support and engagement with the school. Together, we continue to build a strong and inclusive learning community.

Mr Gregory  Neville

Parent School Access Cards

In the interest of health and safety we are introducing a new school parent access card (example in picture). All parents need to collect their card from the school office in primary or secondary. This card will need to be presented if you want to enter the school campus at any time, including pick up and drop off.

Teacher Only Day

We hope all students and families enjoyed their long weekend. On Monday our teachers were engaged in a teacher only day looking forwards with planning and preparation for Term 4. With the National and International exams nearly upon us our focus has been on ensuring the Grade 8, 10, and 12 students are prepared and taking up the intervention support offered to them. If any parents are unsure of the exam dates or interventions in place, please check the Audiri school App or reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher.

Mobile Phone Policy

As with many other schools around the world LIS has led the way with a zero tolerance on the use of mobile phones in school. This is to ensure our students attention is on learning both socially and academically. All parents are reminded that if student mobile phones are seen on either school campus they will be confiscated by the teacher. Parents will then be asked to come and collect the phone from the school office. Repeat occurrences do result in further behaviour sanctions and longer periods of confiscation. We thank all parents for their support in helping our school to remain a distraction free environment where our students can interact socially with one another and give full focus to strengthening their knowledge and understanding.

Revision and Past Papers:

As our Grade 8, 10, and 12 approach their exams in T4 I want to highlight the need for good revision habits and past paper practice. Teachers will be supporting students with past papers from both the PNG National Exams and any International exams they may be taking.

We ask parents to support their children in revision. You can help by monitoring progress and time spent on past paper practice and revision. Motivation is key so discussing good study habits like those in the graphics below will further reinforce the advice we are giving to all students.

Together we can help all our students to reach their best potential.

School Arrival and Departure Times:

Parents are reminded that school finishes at 3pm on both campuses. Students should only remain past pick up time 3.00pm – 3.15pm in secondary if they are participating in intervention classes or a sports ECA. Students not participating should leave the secondary campus promptly after 3pm.

ECAs finish have now finished in primary. All primary students should be picked up promptly between 3.00pm – 3.15pm. In the rare event of a late pick up, due to unforeseen issues, parents should be contacting the school office to advise them. Students should not be regularly picked up late as the school is unable to provide supervision for them.

The school bus service is available as an option if parents are unable to pick their children up at the required times.

As a reminder to all parents and guardians, supervision of students on the primary campus begins at 7.30am with students able to enter classes from 7.45am. We advise all parents to ensure they do not drop their children off earlier than 7.30am. If students arrive between 7.30am and 7.45am they will be supervised in the hall and need to remain in there seated quietly until they can enter classroom.

Head of Boarding

Our Principal and I recently returned from a very successful trip to the Highlands region. I want to personally thank the principals, students & parents of Goroka International School, Hagen International School and Kundiawa International School. Your support throughout our boarding house marketing trip was greatly appreciated and it made our time both productive and enjoyable.

The marketing materials we shared during our visit have generated significant interest in our school. We've received a high volume of inquiries from parents particularly those residing outside the province who are impressed by what they've seen. Many have expressed their satisfaction with our boarding facilities and the care we provide and we already have parents expressing interest in enrolling their children next year. This trip has undoubtedly broadened our reach and created exciting opportunities for the future.

Any parents wanting to inquire about boarding options can contact our registrar Ms. Kila at gkila@lis.iea.ac.pg or me directly at jkalenda@lis.iea.ac.pg.
