Eastlakes Edition

Term 4 Week 5

Acknowledgement to Country

On behalf of the students, teachers and parents of Eastlakes Public School, we would like to pay our respects and acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, past, present and future who have the first connection to this land.

We are thankful for the Gadigal and Kameygal clans for taking care of the land, sky and waterways on which we learn and play today.

Together we will rise to the challenge and be respectful andresponsible to care for our country.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land

Kinder Transition Program

Our Kinder Transition program is in full swing, helping our newest students get ready for the big step into primary school life! During their visits, our future Kinder students are exploring the classroom, meeting teachers, and getting familiar with routines in a fun and supportive environment. The transition program aims to make the first day of school less daunting and more exciting, so they feel right at home come 2025. If you know any families interested in enrolling for next year who haven’t yet joined our transition program, please encourage them to contact the office soon! The final transition session is on next Tuesday 19 November from 9am.

The Importance of Attendance

At our school, we strive for consistent attendance, knowing that every day of school counts towards building a strong foundation for learning. When students are here every day, they benefit from structured learning, social connection, and the continuity needed to build skills. We encourage all families to help their children develop the habit of coming to school daily and only staying home if unwell. Let’s work together to make every day a learning day!

Re-enrolment for 2025

Planning for 2025 is already underway! Families should submit their re-enrolment forms as soon as possible. This will help us plan class sizes, staffing, and resources to ensure the best experience for your children next year. Please reach out to the office if you need assistance or have any questions.

Remembrance Day

On November 11, our school paused to observe Remembrance Day, honouring the men and women who served for Australia. Students learned about the significance of this day and took part in a moment of silence. This tradition helps students appreciate the values of peace, bravery, and resilience.

Thank you for your continued support, and please reach out with any questions regarding these updates or any other school matters. Let’s keep working together to make our school a welcoming and engaging place for every student.

Professional Learning

All teaching and non teaching staff are continuously updating and improving on their skills, knowledge and understandings about learning, teaching, leading and administration practices through high quality professional learning.

Staff have attended the following professional learning in the last two weeks:

    • EFPT Finance Webinar - Mrs Peralta
    • APCI Network Meeting - Ms Giannacopoulos
    • Botany Bay Principal Network Meeting - Ms Tsantoulis

    Collaborative. Respectful. Communication.

    Communication is a two-way process

Parents/carers are welcome and encouraged to talk with their child’s teacher anytime during the year. The class teacher should always be your first port of call. Where possible we would prefer to talk with you in person or over the phone. This process allows both parties to clarify

questions and issues before trying to solve them.

Teachers have obligations for teaching, supervision, meetings and extra-curricular activities from 8.30am to 3pm. It will rarely be possible for teaching staff to meet with you immediately if you attend the school site without notice therefore it is always best to make an appointment.

    How to make an appointment:

Call the office on 9667 3659, or come to the school office in person or send an email to the school eastlakes-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au with the following information:

    • Parent/Carer’s name

    • Your child’s name and class

    • Name of teacher you would like to meet with

    • The purpose of the meeting/interview

    • Your contact details

    • Preferred days and time to meet

Approaching the children of other parents

It is important that all parents model the school expectations of responsibility, respect and learning at all times. Our students learn from the example we all set and the behaviours they observe.

Under no circumstances should parents approach or chastise the child of another parent.

Parents are advised not to contact other parents about a school related concern, particularly if they are feeling angry, frustrated or upset.

Report all concerns following the guidelines. It is the school’s responsibility to look into and address student welfare issues following the Department of Education policies and procedures.

The school has processes to ensure that issues are handled fairly and sensitively.
