Plattsburg Public School Newsletter

August 2025, Term 3 Week 6

A Message from the Principal

We have a very exciting week ahead at Plattsburg, filled with celebrations, achievements, and opportunities for our students.

First and foremost, we are looking forward to welcoming all our wonderful Fathers, Grandfathers and Father-figures to our Father’s Day Breakfast this Friday morning. It’s always such a special event for our school community, and we can’t wait to share this time together.

Our Jump Rope for Heart program continues at Plattsy, and it has been fantastic to see our students enthusiastically developing their fitness and skipping skills. We can’t wait to showcase their progress in the coming weeks.

I am also delighted to announce that Miss Evans will be staying on 5/6 for the remainder of the year. This will provide valuable continuity and stability for our students, and we know they will continue to thrive under her care and guidance.

This week, our Year 6 students will be attending their Taster Lessons at Callaghan College Wallsend Campus (CCWC). These lessons provide a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience high school learning in a supportive environment and to begin familiarising themselves with the setting they will soon be a part of.

Our Plattsburg School Values Drawing Competition is now underway, and we can’t wait to see the creativity of our students as they capture our school values through their artwork. This is always such a fun and meaningful activity that showcases the pride our students have in our school.

Last week, my Principal Positive Push was well received by many of our students. It was fantastic to see so many children taking on board the encouragement and striving to achieve their personal best. Well done Plattsy—you continue to make us proud!

We also wish the very best of luck to the students representing Plattsburg at the Public Speaking Finals this week. A special mention goes to Alice Hockings, who has achieved an outstanding result in making it to the State Finals of the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee. This is an incredible accomplishment and a reflection of her hard work and dedication.

As always, please don’t hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions or require further information. Thank you for your continued support of our students and school community.

Regards,

Dave Hopson

Plattsy's Got Talent

Plattsburg Drawing Competition

Mrs Cole met with students who expressed interest in entering our upcoming Plattsy Drawing Competition. The response was absolutely overwhelming, and it was wonderful to see so many enthusiastic students eager to share their creativity.

All interested students will be bringing home a picture of our school crow, which includes a blank puzzle piece. Inside this puzzle piece, students are invited to draw one of our school values — Respect, Independence, Empathy, or Connecting. We encourage them to think about what these values look like in action and to use their imagination in their designs. Students are welcome to use pencils, crayons, textas, or paint — as long as the image is nice and clear.

If your child hasn’t brought one home today or makes a mistake, spare copies are available at the office.

All completed drawings need to be returned to Mr Hopson by Friday 19th September.

We can’t wait to see the amazing ideas our students come up with!

In The Classroom

Prime Minister's Spelling Bee

A big congratulations to all the students who took part in the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee.  We are so proud of the students who participated, you worked hard, showed determination, and represented our school wonderfully. Well done on completing the challenge!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Alice in Year 3 for making it to the State Finals of the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee! She has worked hard and showed great spelling skills to get this far. We are very proud of her and wish Alice good luck in the next round. Great job!

SEL Program

This week in our Social and Emotional Learning program, students continued their work with Ricky Resilience from the You Can Do It! program. They focused on learning and practising breathing strategies to help manage their emotions in challenging situations. To put these skills into action, students were given the task of completing a puzzle. If they began to feel upset or frustrated, they were encouraged to pause and use their breathing techniques to stay calm and focused. It was a great opportunity for students to apply what they’ve learned and build their emotional resilience in a fun, hands-on way.

Stage 3 Wellbeing Group

Our Stage 3 Girls enjoyed making their own cookie dough body scrubs during our Wellbeing Groups!

The session was filled with teamwork, positive conversations about school and future aspirations, with opportunities for the girls to connect with friends and teachers from other classes. It was such wonderful way to build friendships and support one another.

Well done, girls! – Miss Williams
