Drummoyne Public School

Term 3 Week 9 Newsletter - Friday 19 September 2025

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Dear Drummoyne PS Community,

Thank You, Eugenie

Next Friday we say farewell to Eugenie, who has been a wonderful part of the Drummoyne PS community for almost two decades. During this time, her three sons – Joel, Samuel and Tobias – all attended our school, and Eugenie has generously shared her time, energy and care to support students, staff and families through the canteen and beyond. While she will be missed, Eugenie is looking forward to new adventures and has promised to return as a volunteer from time to time. We thank her warmly for her dedication to our school and wish her all the best in this exciting next chapter.

Regional Athletics Carnival

Congratulations to all our athletes (Ella C, Daniel C, Olivia D, Ashton H, Charles H, Thomas H, Grace K, Jordan K, Daniel K, Jake L, Maeve O, Luis O, Patrick R, Ari S & Max W) who represented Drummoyne PS and the Inner West PSSA at the Regional Athletics Carnival. We are very proud of the way our students competed with determination and spirit. I was particularly pleased to hear reports of our senior boys relay team – Jake, Ashton, Charles and Max – who showed the true community spirit of Drummoyne by running a coaching session for the junior relay team (Patrick, Tom, Daniel and Louis) in the week leading up to the carnival.A special congratulations goes to the following students who placed in the following events and qualified for the NSW State Athletics Carnival:

  • Olivia – 3rd Jnr 200m MC, 2nd Jnr 800m MC, 3rd Jnr Shot Put MC
  • Maeve – 3rd 11 Years 1500m Girls
  • Jake – 2nd Snr Shot Put Boys

‘The Monties’ Take Over DPS!

It’s almost showtime! Next week our students will take to the stage for The Monties, and the excitement across the school is building. From rehearsals in the playground to props appearing everywhere you look, it has been wonderful to see the whole school community pulling together to support the performances.

We can’t wait to welcome families into the audience and celebrate our students’ hard work and talent on stage!

Regards,

John Nguyen

THIS WEEK AT DPS

Debating Report Term 3-Week 9

This week DPS debated against Five Dock Public School in our final round. The topic was ‘International travel does more harm than good.’

The affirmative team, the Frasers were the away team, with Charlotte as 1st speaker, Ashton was 2nd speaker, Isaac was 3rd speaker and Elizabeth was the team advisor. They argued that international travel has a negative impact on the environment, can cause cultural harm, exploits wild animals and puts the health and safety of travelers at risk.

The Abbots were the home team. Grace was 1st speaker, Hamilton was 2nd speaker, 3rd speaker was David and the team advisor was Aliya. As the negative, they argued that international travel brings personal growth, education and cultural understanding, as well as economic benefits and stress reduction.

Well done to both teams on their convincing wins.

A big thank you to Elizabeth’s dad, Nicholas for providing transport for the away team. Also, thanks to chairperson Maeve and timekeepers Ella and Delilah.
