Binalong Bulletin

Term 1, Week 8 2024

From the Principal

Students have been involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities including a visit from the UC Aspire team, various sporting events, Harmony Day and so on. Congratulations to the students on winning the Small Schools Art Prize at the Yass show and thank you to Mrs Edwards for guiding their artworks. The students have been preparing for their Operation Art entries and have been enjoying their weekly art lessons with Mrs Edwards.

Mrs Ranie has been unwell and we are thinking of her and wishing her a very speedy recovery. Thank you to Mr Godman for enthusiastically stepping in to support our students and our school during Mrs Ranie's absence. We are looking forward to seeing Mrs Ranie soon!

Next week is the Easter long weekend so we will have two short weeks in a row! We wish you all a safe and happy Easter and are looking forward to enjoying some Easter craft and celebrations on Thursday. Thank you Mrs Walsh and Miss Gerathy for coordinating.

Moving into Year 7 in 2025

The Department has digitised the Year 6 to Year 7 transition process.  Parents and carers should go online to complete the Expression of Interest (EOI).  If a paper copy is preferred, please see Kerry in the Office (these should be returned by no later than Thursday 28 March 2024).

The link for the online EOI can be found on our school website under the Enrolment tab, "Moving to high school" -

Riverina Swimming

Congratulations to the BPS swim team Elise Edwards, Piper Coble, Zavier Brayshaw and Oscar Coble who swam in Leeton to represent the Cootamundra District at regional level. Oscar swam in the 8 Years 50m Freestyle placing 9th out of 24 swimmers, Piper swam in the Junior Girls  50m Butterfly placing 11th and having a beautiful swim, and the Peter Dobson relay team (Piper, Oscar, Elise and Zavier) placed 12th. Congratulations to all of you, you should all be very proud of your achievements!

Gardening Fun

Each week the students in K-6 have the opportunity to get their hands dirty in the garden. Mrs Walsh has applied for a grant through Landcare and if successful we will have lots of great new resources and additions to our garden.

We are looking to build our Veggie patch and grow a variety of new produce this year. If anyone has some horse or sheep manure they are able to collect and donate, we would very much appreciate it to top up our beds. Thank you

Joyce joins the hen house

Meet Joyce (or Joycie)! Joyce joins the girls from Yass. She is an 8 month old Plymouth Rock Australorp hen. Joyce is getting to know the girls and the lay of the land. We're using lots of eggs at breakfast club, which is fantastic, so we're pleased to bolster our egg supply! Joyce is settling in well.

Easter Celebrations

Pet Photography Competition

Boyz Crew

Well done to William Deale and Thomas Goltz who were accepted into the Boyz Crew Hip Hop Troupe. They travelled to Bradfordville PS last Monday and learnt some hip hop and breakdance skills and moves. I believe that they were both exhausted after learning to spin on their heads! We look forward to seeing what they learn next.

Tennis Tuesdays

For the past couple of weeks our students have been enjoying tennis coaching with Scott Eulenstein from Spinnefex tennis in Yass. We are thrilled to have Scott teaching us new tennis skills each Tuesday sport session for the remainder of term. We have plenty of equipment but students are welcome to bring along their own tennis racquet from home if they wish.

UC Aspire Workshop

On Friday 15th March the UC Aspire team spent the day with our students at school, providing some fantastic learning opportunities. Our focus this visit was ecosystems and animal life in Australia. We explored endangered species and ways in which we can ensure they are protected and thriving for years to come. Students had the chance to collaborate, share ideas and be creative with some fantastic bird house designs. Thank you to the UC team, we all learn so much and thoroughly enjoy these visits.

Yass Show Art Entry

Over the weekend our collaborative student artwork was entered into the Yass Show Art competition. The theme for this years collaborative artwork was "Having Fun". Some of the ways our students like to have fun include drawing, riding motorbikes, going to theme parks, swimming at the beach, caravan trips, using their imagination, exploring outdoors, fishing and so much more.

Students in K-6 sure did have a lot of fun creating this masterpiece and in exciting news it was awarded first place in it's category.

Well done to all of our creative artists!
