ZIG ZAG Public School

Term 4 Week 6

Principals report

As we enter Week 6 of Term 4, it’s hard to believe how quickly the year has flown by! We’re officially on the countdown to the end of the school year, and while there’s still much to look forward to, the finish line is in sight.

With assessments now completed, our teachers are busy at work finalising student reports, reflecting on the hard work and progress of each student throughout the year. It’s been an incredibly rewarding journey, and we are so proud of all that our students have accomplished.

Term 4 has already been filled with wonderful events and memorable moments. Our Year 5/6 camp was certainly a highlight, giving our older students an experience of a lifetime—full of challenges, teamwork, and plenty of fun. Our transition-to-school programs have continued smoothly, with the Puffing Billies program and the LHS Solar Car Challenge offering exciting opportunities for students to learn, explore, and connect with the wider community.

We also enjoyed a beautiful celebration of Grandparents Day, where our school was filled with warm smiles and special moments shared between students and their families. The Questacon visit brought an amazing science show that left everyone buzzing with curiosity, and our students' Recycling Week projects have been truly inspiring, showcasing creativity, innovation, and a strong commitment to caring for our environment.

Please refer to the school calendar in this newsletter for the upcoming events across the remainder of Term 4. There is still plenty to look forward to as we move closer to the end of the year.

Best regards,

Vicki Gillmore

Principal

Milson Island Camp

Stage 3 had an amazing time at Milson Island Camp. They enjoyed a variety of activities such as kayaking, canoeing, bushwalking, and team challenges, which helped them build teamwork and resilience while having fun together. The camp provided a wonderful opportunity for students to connect with nature and create lasting memories.

The food at  Camp was amazing, providing delicious and satisfying meals that kept everyone energised for their exciting activities throughout the day. It was a great part of the overall camp experience, making the stay even more enjoyable for all the students.

The weather was kind with clear skies and pleasant temperatures that made all the outdoor activities even more enjoyable for the students. The great weather contributed to a positive and fun-filled experience for everyone involved.

Remembrance Day

We paused to remember the courage, sacrifice and service of all who have fought for our freedom.

At 11am, ZZPS joined together in silence to honour those who have served and those who continue to serve.

Lest we forget.

Around Our School

Gardening Club

Our Gardening Club has been working super hard since receiving a generous garden supply donation from friends of Zig Zag.

Thank you so much Sarah and Robyn from Glenbrook.

The supplies have enabled the rebuild our main garden bed - it looks amazing!

A huge thank you to Mr and Mrs Connor for their wonderful help building the frame and pulling it all together!

Our students have been busy weeding and preparing the beds. We have now planted beetroot, beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, and even a Tahitian lime tree!

There are still more seedlings to come once they’re grown big enough, and we’ve added mulch to help keep the beds moist and healthy. Thank you to everyone involved for your teamwork, care and green thumbs — our garden is looking just amazing!

Cooking with New Vale Colliery

Our students in 3/4 had fun in cooking this week - it was their turn to make spinach and cheese triangles.

Understanding Anxiety – Learning About Our Amazing Brains

This term, our students are learning about anxiety as part of our wellbeing lessons. We’re starting by exploring how and why our brains react the way they do when we feel worried or stressed.

By helping students understand what’s happening inside their brains, we’re giving them the tools to recognise their feelings, manage big emotions, and build healthy coping strategies.

These lessons are an important step in supporting emotional wellbeing and creating a safe, calm, and caring school environment for everyone.

Leep Project

Fantastic learning in our 4/5 and 5/6 classes  with the Lithgow LEEP Project!

Our students used their Scratch coding skills with Makey Makeys to build their own circuits that resulted in interactive posters all about angles.

Such clever, creative thinking !

iSTEM

We welcomed Mr Miller and his talented iSTEM students, who visited ZZPS to help our Year 6 students assemble the base of their solar cars.

Their expertise and enthusiasm made the session both fun and inspiring!

Now the exciting part begins — our students will design and complete their own cars, ready to race in the Solar Car Challenge at the Year 6 LHS Orientation Day on 2/12/25.

A Big Thank You to Mr Miller and the iSTEM Students!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
