Hello everyone,
I can’t believe we are halfway through week 10! Today marks two weeks until the end of the year and it is certainly going to be a busy and exciting couple of weeks!
It has been wonderful to see Mrs Hyland in and around the school lately! Trish has been working with myself to finish off some ‘end of year’ tasks but I think is really here to see all the students again! As a school we all get some much energy from Mrs Hyland’s visits and it has been wonderful to have her back onsite.
For a group of students these final two weeks of term are a culmination of 7 years of primary school. Our Grade 6 students are deep in preparation for their last few weeks as students here at MMPS. Preparation for Graduation and Exhibition is up and running and everyone is looking forward to celebrating their time here at MMPS. Graduation is being held next Monday night at the Trading Post. It is always a special evening for the Grade 6s and their families. Exhibition is being held next Thursday night here at school, again this is a very special day for the Grade 6s to present their hard work during their final PYP Unit of Inquiry.
Next Tuesday, the 12th of December, is the State-wide Transition Day. All students will be spending time with their 2024 classes and teachers. This is an exciting morning where we get a glimpse of what next year will look like and some time spent with their teacher for next year. The class structures for next year will remain similar to this year, the only small difference is that we will be having a straight Foundation class.
2024 Class structure:
· Foundation
· 1/2
· 2/3
· 3/4
· 5/6
This coming Friday is one of the most looked-forward to days of the year! We will be running ‘Kids Rule The School’ day! This is a chance for the grade 6s take responsibility for running the school and taking lessons in each of the classes. This tradition is one that students from all year levels look forward to and I even think the teachers might revel in being back in the students’ shoes!
I’m finishing today’s report with a heavy heart in extending our condolences to the family and friends of John Ewels following his passing last week. John played such an important part in the history of Mount Macedon Primary School. He was Principal during the Ash Wednesday fires and more recently for a period of time a few years ago. John was active in our school camp program and could instil the love of the outdoors in anybody he came in contact with. We were so lucky to have John join us on school camps and bushwalks, he knew and loved the area so well it was infectious. John ran our bike education program and earlier this year took our grade 4, 5 and 6s on the Williamstown bike ride. It was obvious to everyone how much John loved doing this.
With the next few weeks being so busy, and with everything that has been going on, it is important that we take breaks when we can and look after ourselves. If anyone needs to touch base regarding the next few weeks please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Thanks,
Joe.
