As we are drawing closer to the end of the term, I just wanted to let parents know that if your child has had any medications that may have been stored in the First Aid cupboard, and you are leaving earlier for Christmas holidays, please let the office know as I will send home these medications with the student. All medications will be sent home on the last day of term.

If you want your child’s asthma medication or EpiPen’s please let me know and I can send this home with the student at the end of term.

I will also be advising parents of any medications that need to be refilled or if your child needs an updated Asthma plan prior to the beginning of the 2024. If this applies to you, please have plans and medications ready for the beginning of Term 1.

Thank you for your assistance over the year and have a lovely Christmas break.

Principal's Report

Hello everyone,

I can’t believe we are halfway through week 10! Today marks two weeks until the end of the year and it is certainly going to be a busy and exciting couple of weeks!

It has been wonderful to see Mrs Hyland in and around the school lately! Trish has been working with myself to finish off some ‘end of year’ tasks but I think is really here to see all the students again! As a school we all get some much energy from Mrs Hyland’s visits and it has been wonderful to have her back onsite.

For a group of students these final two weeks of term are a culmination of 7 years of primary school. Our Grade 6 students are deep in preparation for their last few weeks as students here at MMPS. Preparation for Graduation and Exhibition is up and running and everyone is looking forward to celebrating their time here at MMPS. Graduation is being held next Monday night at the Trading Post. It is always a special evening for the Grade 6s and their families. Exhibition is being held next Thursday night here at school, again this is a very special day for the Grade 6s to present their hard work during their final PYP Unit of Inquiry.

Next Tuesday, the 12th of December, is the State-wide Transition Day. All students will be spending time with their 2024 classes and teachers. This is an exciting morning where we get a glimpse of what next year will look like and some time spent with their teacher for next year. The class structures for next year will remain similar to this year, the only small difference is that we will be having a straight Foundation class.

2024 Class structure:

·         Foundation

·         1/2

·         2/3

·         3/4

·         5/6

This coming Friday is one of the most looked-forward to days of the year! We will be running ‘Kids Rule The School’ day! This is a chance for the grade 6s take responsibility for running the school and taking lessons in each of the classes. This tradition is one that students from all year levels look forward to and I even think the teachers might revel in being back in the students’ shoes!

I’m finishing today’s report with a heavy heart in extending our condolences to the family and friends of John Ewels following his passing last week. John played such an important part in the history of Mount Macedon Primary School. He was Principal during the Ash Wednesday fires and more recently for a period of time a few years ago. John was active in our school camp program and could instil the love of the outdoors in anybody he came in contact with. We were so lucky to have John join us on school camps and bushwalks, he knew and loved the area so well it was infectious. John ran our bike education program and earlier this year took our grade 4, 5 and 6s on the Williamstown bike ride. It was obvious to everyone how much John loved doing this.

With the next few weeks being so busy, and with everything that has been going on, it is important that we take breaks when we can and look after ourselves. If anyone needs to touch base regarding the next few weeks please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Thanks,

Joe.

This week in DigiTech

So, the other week when I was on yard duty (also known as "Mr Garcia, can I have a band-aid?, I saw a spider, What are you eating?, Can I walk with you... etc)  a lovely student asked me what one of the plants where, when my reply of 'Green' wasn't good enough for them, I realised my MMPS Plant knowledge was lacking.

So, I had two options, look into it myself, or get the students to do it for me - I went with option two.

To that end, our Junior students are spending the next couple of weeks photographing and cataloguing all of the vegetation at our school to create plant labels we can place.

Now, as we don't know our Aeonium Arboreums from our Sedum spathulifoliums, we are using Google Lens on our iPads to analyse our photos to let us know the plant species and how to best care for them.

You can see some of our horticulturalists in action in this picture.

Wellbeing & Inclusion

As our Grade 6 students approach the conclusion of their time at Mount Macedon Primary School, they have dedicated themselves to leaving a positive impact on our scenic grounds. Throughout this week, they have diligently worked on enhancing our front fence and seating areas, contributing to the overall improvement of our school environment.

The Strong Hearts program commenced this week for our 4/5 girls, placing emphasis on emotional well-being, cultivating resilience, promoting healthy coping strategies, and fostering positive friendships. Emily Gascoyne, a registered Social Worker, has developed and is facilitating this program.

Macedon & Mt Macedon Carols by Candlelight

Our Carols are fast approaching and you may have heard your children singing their songs around the house as they prepare for their performance. We are performing as part of the community carols along with local performers and Macedon Primary School at Tony Clarke reserve. This is not a school organised event and parents/guardians are responsible for their own children on the night.

The event starts at 5.30 with a sausage sizzle, ice cream truck and coffee truck with the official starting time for the carols at 6.30.

We require all children who are performing to be there by 6.30 ready to perform. Our school is performing three songs on the night.

Children are not required to wear school uniform for the event but are asked to wear a Santa hat or headband if they would like to.

Bring along a picnic rug or chairs and a picnic or purchase food on the night. This is always a lovely event for the Macedon and Mount Macedon community and there may even be a special visitor in red who will be joining the festivities! We hope to see you all there.

5.30pm with carols starting at 6.30pm
