Newsletter: Term 3 Issue 7

Principal's Message

Welcome back to everyone in our school community for Term 3. I think we say this every term, but what a jam-packed term we have for our students. Well done to our student leadership team and Room 2 who have run our assemblies since our last edition. I would like to acknowledge Room 2 who in the lead up and on the day were missing a third of their class. The students adapted very well to the late changes.

We have unfortunately had to say farewell to two staff members this term. We wish Shannon Ellis, our wonderful AIEO, all the best as he heads back to Derby with his family, and we also wish Miss Georgia Bell the best with her move and new adventures. Thank you for your contributions to our school. We have welcomed Ms Joanne Callaghan who is assisting us as part of the teacher flying squad and is working across our ECE classrooms. Additionally, we welcome Miss Darielle Batchelor-Hirama as an experienced Special Needs Education Assistant to our team. We know you will love Newman Primary School.

We appreciated all the parent survey responses to our ‘School Culture Survey’ and are continuing to share snippets of the feedback. The graph below represents responses related to Learning Environment. Whilst all areas are positive, there are always areas for improvement. As a staff we have looked at these and discussed ways we can improve moving forward.

With the start of Term 3, we had some room changes across the school due to enrolment numbers. The changes ran smoothly, and the teachers and students are enjoying their new rooms. Thank you to the families for their understanding and support and I would like to acknowledge the teachers for their work in ensuring a smooth transition for all involved.

We had some very successful events since our last edition and many of them are showcased below. We thank the Cultural Education Committee for organising NAIDOC events and it was great to see so many community members coming into the school to run activities or participate in events. The Colour Explosion afternoon was another great fundraising event that will help the school with banners, flags, and signage for assembly. Awesome Arts, kindly sponsored by BHP, having been working on making film with Rooms 1 & 2 and we have been visited by the Fremantle Dockers.

It has been fantastic to see the amazing new playground painting and activities provided for our students (photos below). This was only made possible through our fundraising last year and school and P&C contributions. Thank you to the P&C for supporting this. Our students love it! We have our new school jumpers available through SportsPower. These look fantastic and are a part of our school uniform, so we encourage all students to have one.

Our School Board would like to invite any interested parents to our open meeting on the 22 August at 6.30pm in our school library. Come along and see how the school Board assist with the governance of the school as referenced in the diagram below.

Our priority is always your child and in developing a close relationship with our school community where we all work together to provide the best educational opportunities for all children at Newman Primary School. Please remember to make yourself known to your child’s class teacher and don’t hesitate to seek clarification on any questions you may have. If further clarification is needed or you would like to discuss other areas, please do not hesitate to contact me.

100 Days of Learning - Pre Primary

On the 26th of August, the Pre-Primary students celebrated a significant milestone - their first 100 days of school. The day was filled with joy as the students dressed up as 100-years-olds to mark this special occasion. Throughout the day, they engaged in different activities, such as stacking 100 cups and decorating biscuits with 100s &1000s. At the end of the celebration, a morning tea was shared amongst the students and their parents.

We are very proud of our Pre-Primary students for the effort they have put into their learning over these first 100 days of school.

Playground Artwork

Have you seen our new playground paintings? Learning through play has many positive outcomes - play is typically an active and joyful experience, which lends itself to social interaction between children. During play, children build upon concepts they have already previously learned. These concepts may involve planning and effective relationships!

We would like to thank our wonderful P&C who contributed funds to help make this dream come true. How lucky for the students at Newman Primary School.
