Monday 15th May Term 2 Week 4

From the Principal

Student Success:

Congratulations to all the students who recently competed at the Zone Cross Country Day. All students were wonderful ambassadors for our school. Well done to speedster, Aela who came second in her event and will now represent at the regional carnival later this term. Congratulations to the Wonai team who recently participated in an Aboriginal dance workshop. The team had a wonderful day and we are looking forward to seeing what they have learnt at our NAIDOC celebrations later this term. Our aerobics teams competed at the regional qualifier yesterday with both teams successfully making it through to the state finals.

Mother’s Day:

What a fantastic day we had on Friday to celebrate the mothers in our community! Mums, grandmothers and important women in our student’s lives were treated to a wonderful pamper afternoon and looked absolutely relaxed and amazing after the event was over. A big thank you to our organising teachers for the day. A big thank you also to our P&C for the fantastic Mother’s Day stall held on Friday morning – very special presents for students to buy for their mum!

Upcoming events:

We have a lot of special activities over the next two weeks. Walk Safely to School Day is this Friday. Keep an eye out for a notice about a walking bus from the lake to school. The Year 6 Mini fete is also this Friday. This event is for students only. Our band students will be attending Bandlink Monday and Tuesday next week – a fantastic opportunity to develop their skills. Some of our support unit students will be taking part in a boccia day next week – a wonderful inclusive activity. Our students also have the opportunity to see the Wala performance next week, a reminder that payment for this event is due by this Friday, 19 May. National Simultaneous Storytime will also be held next Wednesday. So many wonderful events for our students to engage and learn!

Check In assessments:

The first Check In assessments for the year will be held next week for Year 6 and 4 students. These assessments provide valuable information on how students are tracking with literacy and numeracy skills.

PBL:

We have updated our PBL Gotcha reward program to refresh enthusiasm. Students will now collect yellow gotchas in the playground and use them at the end of the term to select a reward from a menu. The more gotchas, the bigger the reward that can be chosen. The students are very enthusiastic about the new program. Students will also be invited to suggest rewards for the Term 3 menu.

Lunch time activities:

We have several new lunch time activities beginning this term. Chess club has already started, and students will soon have the chance to attend a lunch time disco, art club, loom knitting and finger knitting, football trading card group, play giant board games during lunch times.

School Plan Update:

With the changes to NAPLAN, our school plan has been updated to remove improvement measures based on NAPLAN data. This was due to the fact that we are not able to compare this year’s data with previous year’s data. Instead, we will be looking at our Check In data and PAT assessment data to see growth in student learning. Our new plan will be published on the school website in the coming weeks.

Walk Safely to School Day Friday 19 May

Walk Safely to School Day is this Friday, 19 May. Children are encouraged to walk to school with their parents or caregiver to encourage healthy habits and promote road safety.

This year Mr Batchelor and Senior Constable Elke Watt will meet our WBPS students and their families at Warners Bay Road and The Esplanade at 8:20am, to begin walking to school at 8:30am. Parents and caregivers are required to walk with their children. You could even bring your dog for a walk too.

Our school PBL Mascot, Millsy, will be waiting at the Augusta Street entrance on Fiday morning from 8:45am to greet students and hand hand out stickers to promote walking to school.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Uniform Shop

The Uniform Shop is open Wednesday mornings from 8:45am - 9:45am. Orders for uniform items can be made online (link on the school website), or in person during shop opening hours. We are also accepting Back to School Vouchers, which can be redeemed before 30 June 2023.
