On Tuesday, our school hosted the DOE School Excellence team, who visited classrooms to see how numeracy is being taught at Rydalmere Public School, specifically our 'Daily Reviews' in mathematics. Thank you to 1/2C and 1/2S for inviting us into your classrooms to see the great work that you are all doing. Additionally, the RPS executive team presented and highlighted the positive changes in culture at RPS, focusing on teaching and learning, student engagement and attendance, and community partnerships with the wider school community, including the P&C and Community Hub.

Decodable Readers

Thank you to the P&C for the $5000 donation that was used for the home readers. Thank you to Mrs Colotouros and Paul McDermott (DOE – School Excellence team) who were able to secure a one off grant to match the P&C donation. Mrs Arnott, Mrs Srinivasan and our volunteer team are busy accessioning and covering the books so that they can go home in the near future.

Cumberland High School Touring Band

This morning our students were entertained by the Cumberland High School Touring Band consisting of 151 students. They showcased their instrumental and vocal talents. It was a fantastic experience for everyone. Thank you to the Cumberland High School Touring Band for visiting us. It was also great to see so many ex-Rydalmere students displaying their talents.

Sydney West Girls Soccer

Congratulations to Maxine who was selected in the Merrylands Parramatta PSSA Girls Soccer team. She competed against other Zone teams in the Sydney West Region in a round robin competition. Maxine said that the highlight of the day was having fun whilst playing soccer. In the future Maxine aims to one day represent our country by playing for the Matildas.

K-2 Assistant Principal Updates

1/2S Exploring Area

1/2S has been exploring the concept of area in maths by using tiles to calculate how much space different objects and surfaces take up. Students have been engaged in hands-on learning that is practical, meaningful, and fun!

K–2 Excursion to Elizabeth Farm

Students in K–2 will be heading off on an exciting excursion to Elizabeth Farm in Term 3, Week 4 – Friday 15th August. As part of their History learning, this experience will give students a hands-on understanding of what life was like in colonial Australia and how it compares to life today.

During the visit, students will:

  • Wash clothes by hand

  • Explore the kitchen garden and learn about food before supermarkets

  • Write with a quill and ink, creating their own bookplate

  • Discover how food was stored and preserved before refrigeration

  • Learn how the Macarthur family and their servants lived without electricity, running water, or modern appliances

  • Play traditional 19th-century games like hoops, skittles, quoits, and cup and ball

This immersive experience will encourage students to think critically, ask questions, and reflect on how daily life has changed over time. It promises to be a fun and educational day that brings history to life!

3-6 Assistant Principal Updates

Celebrating Student Success: School Finals for Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking and Premier's Spelling Bee

Last week, our school was abuzz with excitement as we held the finals for two major statewide competitions – the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition and the Premier’s Spelling Bee. Students from across years 3-6 came together to showcase their talent, confidence, and dedication in front of their peers and teachers.

In the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking competition, students delivered powerful speeches that explored important issues such as inclusion, cultural identity, and respect. Each speaker impressed the audience with their clear delivery, persuasive arguments, and thoughtful reflections. The school final was a true celebration of student voice, with topics ranging from current global issues to personal experiences that connected deeply with our diverse school community.

Meanwhile, the Premier’s Spelling Bee school final had everyone on the edge of their seats! Our talented spellers went head-to-head through a challenging set of words, demonstrating incredible focus, vocabulary knowledge, and resilience under pressure. The friendly but fierce competition had rounds stretching well into the final word list, highlighting the outstanding spelling abilities of our students.

We’d like to say a huge well done to all the students who made it to our school finals – your effort and preparation were clear to see. A special congratulations goes to the following students who will go on to represent our school at the local area finals:

  • Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Finalists:

    Stage 2 - Noah, Ben

    Stage 3 - Marcus, Daniel

  • Premier’s Spelling Bee Finalists:

    Stage 2 - Bruce, Riley J

    Stage 3 - Charlie H, Celine

We also commend the supportive student audience who showed excellent respect, encouragement, and interest throughout both events. Thank you to our teachers for their time in coaching and coordinating, and to our families for fostering such confident, articulate learners.

We wish our finalists the very best as they prepare to compete at the next level!

4/5S – Reading Growth and Comprehension Skills

Students in 4/5S have been working through a range of reading comprehension levels, focusing on key skills such as vocabulary, grammar, spelling, retelling, and understanding meaning in texts. Each student selects a text suited to their individual level and completes targeted questions designed to build their reading strategies. Throughout the term, they have demonstrated consistent progress and growing confidence in their reading abilities.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)

PBL & Merit Awards - Term 2 Week 8

Congratulations to the following students for receiving Certificates of Merit and PBL Awards!

School Uniform

As the weather starts to get cooler, we’d like to remind families to ensure students are dressed appropriately for the season while still wearing the correct school uniform.

Students are encouraged to wear their school jumper and school jacket to stay warm during the day. Please make sure all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name to help prevent them from getting lost.

Thank you for supporting our school uniform PBL focus and for helping students take pride in being Rydalmere Public School students.

Lost Property

The lost property box is located in A Block, down the hallway. Please ensure all of your child’s belongings are clearly labelled with their name.

The lost property box is currently full of unnamed water bottles, jackets, jumpers and hats, which makes it difficult to return items to their owners.

We kindly ask that you check the lost property box and collect any missing items before the end of the term. Unclaimed items will be either donated to the second-hand uniform shop or disposed of.

They will then go home with their very own potted up flowering plant and activity sheets.
