Therapy Pony/Horse Incursion

On Wednesday our students had a visit from Leesa Murray and her therapy pony and horse, Legend and Cowboy. Legend and Cowboy are involved in Leesa's Wellbeing Program which aims to support children with their emotional wellbeing and mental health. Leesa's session's aim to support conversations around emotional wellbeing, self-regulation, kindness, connection, and looking after our mental health in a way that is engaging, developmentally appropriate, and fun for students.

During the sessions, students were able to:

• Get a brief introduction to the therapy horse/pony and how ponies communicate feelings and emotions

• Have discussions around emotions, wellbeing, and ways we can help ourselves feel calm and regulated

• Have interactive activities involving the pony that encourage participation, teamwork, emotional awareness, and respectful behaviour around animals

• Have opportunities for observation and (where appropriate) gentle interaction with the pony.

Thank you to Leesa for bringing Legend and Cowboy along. As you can see the children thoroughly enjoyed their time with Legend and Cowboy and we hope to see you all again soon :)

Winter Carnival

Yesterday our year 3-6 students enjoyed a fantastic day of competition at the Winter Carnival, competing against Merredin College in Hockey, Netball, and Football. Across all sports, there were many closely contested games, with students displaying great determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the day.

It was wonderful to see our players' skills in their chosen sports improve as the day progressed, along with their confidence. Students embraced every opportunity to learn, challenge themselves, and support one another, making the day a wonderful experience for all involved.

A highlight of the carnival was the outstanding leadership shown by our older students. They consistently encouraged their teammates, ensured everyone was included, and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship both on and off the field. They should be very proud of the example they set for our younger students.

Changes to the football fixtures meant that only two teams competed on the day. The first two matches were incredibly close, with each team claiming a one-point victory, meaning the result came down to the third and final game. Scores were locked together until three-quarter time, when St Mary's managed to gain a slight advantage and hold on to secure the overall football victory for the day.

The netball competition was equally exciting, with several tightly contested matches. The results were so close that the battle for second place ultimately had to be decided on a countback.

Hockey was another closely fought competition. While goals proved difficult to come by, resulting in several drawn games, this never stopped our students from giving their all. Their persistence, teamwork, and positive attitudes were evident throughout the day.

Congratulations to all students who participated and represented St Mary's with pride. Their enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and willingness to encourage one another made the Winter Carnival a memorable and successful day for everyone involved.

Class News

Kindy

Wow! What a big term we have had in Kindy. Everyone was so excited to see their friends after the two-week break and were keen to leap straight back into learning.

This term in numeracy we have been focussing on our numbers from 1 to 10 and learning all about patterns. We have gone on nature walks to collect different items to use to make patterns. We have enjoyed making patterns using our class members, exercises, stickers and a range of other activities.

We started the term in kindy learning about farms. Our class has enjoyed exploring different farm animals, learning about where food comes from and of course, all the machinery that are used on local farms in the Wheatbelt. Through a range of farm stories, songs, some very cute craft activities, and imaginative play, our students have developed their vocabulary and curiosity of life on farms.

We have also been exploring the fascinating world of mini beasts. The children have enjoyed investigating worms, dragonflies and other small creatures. We have been learning about where they live and their important roles in the environment. We loved having earth worms in our classroom, where we learnt how to be gentle and careful with them. We were also very lucky to visit the schools worm farm, run by the year 6 environmental team. The year six students gave an insightful talk to the Kindy class, explaining how worm farms work. They went through what worms like to eat, how to care for them and some general interesting facts about worms.

Beanstalk at Cummins Theatre Sunday 5 July

Everyone knows Jack’s story, but what about the giant’s? Do we really know what happened that day when Jack unexpectedly barged into the giant’s kitchen? Was it the grim fee-fi-fo-fum bone-crunching tale we’ve all grown up with, or is there a different story waiting to be told?

Beanstalk is the hilarious retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk told from the giant’s point of view. Step into Brian’s cloud-making kitchen where he cooks up carrots, fluffy clouds and a few stories from his not-so-easy life as a giant.

Funny, unapologetically playful and utterly charming, Beanstalk will have you laughing at the antics of a loaf of bread (Jack), reeling in horror at the squishing of a tomato (a villager), and marvelling at the clever trickery that brings the magic of cloud creation to life.

Bookings can be made in person at the Visitor Centre or online through bit.ly/CTBeanstalk
