Term 4 2024 Review

The first half of Term 4 is always a busy time in high schools and this year has been no different. In week one and two we farewelled and celebrated our Year Twelves as they officially completed their schooling journey and became the Newman SHS Class of 2024. I would like to congratulate all our Year 12 award winners and our whole cohort on the successes they have enjoyed throughout their time at Newman SHS. We look forward to hearing all about their successes as they transition into the next chapter of their lives.

As we farewell one group we have commenced the transition process for our incoming Year 7 students for 2025 as we start welcoming them and their families into our school. It was lovely to see so many people here last week for our Year 6 Transition evening.

We currently have our Year 12 ATAR students completing their final WACE examinations and our Year 11 ATAR students completing their first set of year long examinations. We wish both groups all the very best and hope their hard work and preparations throughout the year are reflected in the results they achieve.

The rest of the school are working hard on finalising their courses for 2024 and striving to finish successfully.

Enjoy the articles that follow which show some of the highlights of our term so far.

Kind regards

Charmaine Ford

Clontarf Year 12 Major Trip

Three boys attended the Clontarf Year 12 Major Trip on the Gold Coast last week (October 19 -25). The Newman Academy boys travelled across to Queensland with students from Belmont, Kent Street and Northam Academies and stayed in a great hotel, right on the waterfront.

The trip was a reward event for the boys completing Year 12 and the Newman boys who attended were Jacquyn Butt, Tyvon Beasley and one fortunate Year 11 Deklan Jackson.

The boys got to participate in number of great activities, including Movie World, Wet ‘n’ Wild, Super Golf, Ten Pin Bowling and watching a movie in 4D.

Without doubt the highlight of the trip was a visit to the Gold Coast Sun’s Training Facility and home ground at Carrara.  The boys received An awesome tour from Life Member and Indigenous great Jarrod Harbrow, who showed them through all the clubs state of the art facilities, and spent a great deal of time connecting with the boys and explaining all the programs the club offers to their indigenous players.

All seven of our current Year 11’s this year will have the opportunity to attend a similar trip to an Eastern States City of their choice in 2025.
