Moorditj Noongar Community College Newsletter

Term 1 ~ Week 5 ~ 6 March 2025

Messages From the Principal

Principals Address

We have had a busy start to the school year at Moorditj. School attendance has been great in 2025 and student behaviour across the school has been very positive. Please ensure that children are attending school every day. Children are required to have 80% attendance to participate in reward excursions or camps. Those students that achieve 90% attendance will be invited to laser tag at the end of term.

Moort Afternoon Tea

Moorditj held a Family Afternoon Tea on Wednesday 19th February. It was fantastic to see so many friendly families at the event. Please try and attend these important days so that you can keep up to date with your child’s education and progress.

Swan Adventure Camp

Moorditj is holding its annual Yr5/6 Camp at the Swan Adventure Camp on the 31st March 2025. Camp is an amazing experience for our older students which develops friendships, teamwork, and connection within the group. The Camp is heavily subsidised by the school and offered for just $75. Children attending the camp will enjoy the commando course, a climbing challenge, high ropes, bush craft, a tricky crate stack and much, much more. For safety reasons students need to have their good standing and be proven to follow directions to attend. Students also need to have 80% attendance to participate in the overnight part of the camp.

NAPLAN Testing

From week 6 this term students in Yr3 and Yr5 will be sitting NAPLAN tests along with every other similar aged child in the state. These tests provide a snapshot of student academic performance and support our teacher judgments when reporting. The tests are not intended to be stressful, and we will encourage students to do their best.

Home Reading

Home Reading is an important part of our literacy strategy at Moorditj Noongar Community College. It is important that children read every night for at least 10 minutes. We will send home a variety of books that are at their appropriate level. Students that get their home reading books folders signed, will earn books every 20 nights at assembly. There is also a special excursion to Bounce booked at the end of term for students reading 35 nights.

Stationery Packs for 2025

We still have a few families that haven't provided Booklist items for their children.  It is really important that you provide these items so that your child can learn.

Booklists can purchased from Officeworks, K-Mart or Big W.

All students need to have stationery, including any scrapbooks, in order to be able to do their work. The school does not supply these items for your children.

Voluntary Contributions Payment

The money collected for Voluntary Contributions is used in providing materials, services and facilities directly used by students including textbooks and text materials.  This also includes computer/digital items, materials for art, science, cooking and our web based materials. The quality of our teaching and learning programs will be maximised when each family contributes and pays their invoice that was sent out late last year and earlier this term.

Payment can be made by EFTPOS over the phone or cash.

Year 6 Leavers Shirts

The 2025 Yr 6 Leavers shirts are now available to purchase from the office.  The price is $40ea.  Payment can be made by EFTPOS over the phone or cash.

Year 5 & 6 Camp

This year our Year 5 & 6 camp is being held at Swan Valley Adventure Camp in Middle Swan.  The adventure centre features over 20 outdoor activities promoting educational outcomes, teamwork and enjoyment for all.

The camp is being held from Monday 31 March to Tuesday 1 April and the cost is $75 per student.  Payment can be made by EFTPOS over the phone or in cash and must be paid in full by Friday 28 March.

School Health Nurse

Moorditj's School Health Nurse,  Julie-Anne Jones, visits your school regularly.

School Health nurses support children’s healthy development and wellbeing in primary schools. We offer a free health check (School Entry Health Assessment) for all children in the year that they start school. These forms will be sent home during the year. If you sign and return it, I can check your child’s vision, hearing, teeth, growth, and development. These assessments are available to children in other years, please see your class teacher for further information regarding referral to the school health nurse.

School Health Nurses provide feedback and support to families and schools after assessment and connect you with services in the community. We promote parenting programs and help with health care plans for students with identified and chronic health needs. Additionally, we may provide advice and support for some areas of the curriculum delivery on request by the school.

If you have any concerns about your child’s health, development, or well-being, please contact me through the school office, or at 0404894312. The services provided are free and confidential and are available to children from kindergarten to year 6.
