March 2026, Term 1 Week 6

A Message from the Principal

Dear Families,

What a fantastic start to the term it has been! I would like to sincerely thank all of our families who attended our recent Parent–Teacher Meet and Greet. It was wonderful to see so many members of our school community come together with a shared commitment to supporting our students. Strong partnerships between home and school are vital, and your presence and engagement truly set a positive tone for the year ahead.

As we begin the new school year, we continue to hold high expectations for all of our students, academically, socially, and personally. It has been incredibly pleasing to see students arriving each day engaged, focused, and ready to learn. Classrooms are already buzzing with curiosity, collaboration, and enthusiasm. When students know that we believe in their potential and expect their best effort, they rise to meet those expectations.

A reminder to families about the importance of full school uniform. Wearing the correct uniform, including white socks and black shoes, promotes a sense of pride, belonging, and unity within our school. We appreciate your support in ensuring students are dressed appropriately each day and represent our school with pride.

We recently held our first assembly for the year, which was a wonderful celebration of community and leadership. A special congratulations to our newly inducted Sports Captains. We are proud of the leadership qualities they have already demonstrated and look forward to seeing them inspire teamwork, sportsmanship, and school spirit throughout the year.

This term, our Plattsy focus is **RESPECT**. Respect is at the heart of a positive and successful school culture. We are talking with students about what respect looks like in action, respect for each other through kindness and inclusion, respect for our teachers through attentive listening and positive participation, and respect for our environment by caring for our classrooms and playgrounds. When we treat one another and our surroundings with care, everyone benefits.

Thank you for your continued support in reinforcing these important values at home. Together, we are building a culture where every child feels valued, supported, and inspired to achieve their best.

I am truly excited for the term ahead. With strong partnerships, high expectations, and a shared commitment to respect, we are set for a successful and rewarding year.

Warm regards

Shahn Radcliffe

Callaghan College Pathways Program

This week we were excited to host our next session of the Callaghan College Pathways Program. Our K/1H students were lucky enough to be part of the experience, working alongside a fantastic group of Year 9 and Year 10 student leaders from the High School. The older students did a wonderful job engaging with our younger learners, supporting activities and building positive connections.

A massive thank you to Miss Lenskyj for the fantastic way she works with our students and for her continued support of this program. These opportunities are a wonderful way to strengthen our partnership with the High School and provide meaningful learning experiences for our students.

Lunchtime Craft Group

Our lunchtime craft group has been having a wonderful time getting creative with clay!

Students enjoyed exploring their imagination while making all sorts of unique creations. From small sculptures to decorative pieces, everyone had the chance to experiment with shaping, moulding, and designing their own clay artworks.

It has been fantastic to see so much creativity, teamwork, and enthusiasm during our craft sessions. Well done to all the students who joined in and brought their ideas to life!

In The Classroom

Learning About Ear Health in Early Stage 1

Early Stage 1 recently enjoyed a special visit from Ms Shiells, an Itinerant Support Teacher – Hearing (Conductive Hearing Loss) from the Newcastle Hearing Team.

During the session, students learned all about ear health and why it is important to look after our ears. Ms Shiells shared an engaging story and led the students in a range of fun activities designed to help them understand how their ears work.

Students particularly enjoyed participating in games that tested their listening skills and helped them think about ways to keep their ears healthy. They also practised an important life skill - how to blow their noses correctly to help keep their ears and noses clear.

It was a fun and informative afternoon, and our students loved learning through hands-on activities.

Thank you, Ms Shiells, for sharing your knowledge with us and for a wonderful afternoon of learning!
