Eastlakes Edition

Term 3 Week 7

Acknowledgement to Country

Students, teachers and parents of Eastlakes Public School, pay respects and acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, past, present and future who have the first connection to this land.

We are thankful for the Gadigal and Kameygal clans for taking care of the land, sky and waterways on which we learn and play today.

Together we will rise to the challenge and be respectful and responsible to care for our country.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land

From the Principal

What a busy time it has been at our school! A huge thank you to our amazing P&C for organising the second-hand book stall, selling bookmarks, and running the “Guess how many Book Worms in the Jar” competition during Book Week. And a special shout-out for the wonderful Father’s Day breakfast; it was such a lovely event to celebrate our dads and carers. Thank you to the following local businesses for donating breakfast goods and vouchers:

  • Bear and Bean Eastlakes

  •  Lakeside Harvest

  •  Brothers Barber

  •  Coles- Pagewood

  • Woolworths Metro- Eastlakes

Congratulations to our talented DanceSport performers who shone brilliantly at the Homebush event last week. We’re excited to see them perform again tomorrow at the Bayside Spring Fair at Jack Mundey Reserve. Many thanks to Miss Cox and Miss Atkins for their dedication and fantastic leadership in coordinating this.

This week, we celebrated our incredible SASS staff and acknowledged the essential role they play in helping our school thrive. On Footy Colours Day, we also came together to raise funds for cancer research – thank you for your generosity!

There’s so much happening with our SRC too! They are busy designing a school logo and are working with me on plans for new ground markings for soccer and netball, as well as mini soccer goals for our K-2 students, a wonderful project in progress.

Our zone athletics carnival took place this past Monday with many students performing exceptionally well. We look forward to presenting ribbons and awards at the next assembly.

Looking ahead, we have a fantastic lineup including a parent workshop on developing multiplicative skills, Stage 3 Story Factory workshop, Stage 2 and 3 excursion to the Opera House, public speaking finals, the PBL disco, Years 4 and 5 taster lessons at JJ Cahill High School, and many more exciting activities that will take us to the end of term!

A gentle reminder to please ensure students wear their full school uniform every day, arrive on time, and attend school daily unless unwell. Wearing school uniform is important for several reasons:

  • Fosters a Sense of Belonging: Uniforms help students feel part of their school community, promoting unity and school pride.
  • Enhances Safety and Security: Uniforms make it easier to identify which helps staff ensure student safety.
  • Promotes Equality: wearing uniforms help to create a more equal and respectful atmosphere.

Overall, wearing school uniform supports a positive, respectful, and focused school environment.

The importance of school attendance cannot be underestimated. Coming to school every day and being on time is important because:

  • Maximises Learning: Regular attendance ensures students receive all their lessons and participate fully in classroom activities, helping them build their knowledge and skills.

  • Promotes Consistency: Being on time and present each day helps students develop routines and good habits that support their learning and wellbeing.

  • Builds Relationships: Attending school consistently allows students to connect with teachers and classmates, strengthening friendships and their sense of belonging.

  • Achieves Best Outcomes: Students who attend and participate regularly are more likely to achieve academic success and reach their full potential.

  • Missed Time Means Missed Opportunities: Missing school or arriving late can mean missing important instructions, explanations, or collaborative activities, making it harder to catch up.

  • Supports Responsibility: Punctuality and regular attendance are important life skills that help students become responsible and reliable individuals.

  • Regular and timely attendance at school sets students up for success in their learning and supports their growth both academically and socially.

Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in our school community.
