Principal's Report

Dear JPS Community,

It has been a busy and positive Week 4 at Jamberoo Public School.

On Monday and Tuesday afternoon, we held our Meet the Teacher sessions, with Kindergarten to Year 2 families meeting in classrooms on Monday and Years 3 to 6 on Tuesday. Thank you to the many parents and carers who attended. We value the strong partnerships built between school and home, as these relationships play a vital role in supporting student learning and wellbeing.

During both afternoons, students and siblings were supervised in the hall from 3.00 to 4.30 pm. Children enjoyed games, movement, dancing and social time together. A game of piggy-in-the-middle between 10 kids was a highlight! It was lovely to see all ages playing together. Around 4.00 pm, we transitioned to some appropriate viewing on the big screen to help everyone wind down. Behaviour in the hall across both afternoons was excellent.

On Tuesday, Mrs Behl-Shanks and Mr Reed supported our swimmers at the District Swimming Carnival. Thank you to both staff members for giving their time and support. Congratulations to all of our swimmers who represented the school so well. I have heard it was a great day, and thank you to Peta for passing on such lovely feedback to our staff. I am told the cheering was loud, the races were fast and the sun was very present.

On Wednesday afternoon, teachers engaged in professional learning focused on the new Creative Arts, HSIE, PDHPE, and Science and Technology (CHPS) for K–6, syllabuses. We are currently implementing the new syllabus documents for Music, Dance and PDHPE. A big thanks to Mrs McCormack for supporting the music component and Mrs Behl-Shanks for supporting the new dance lessons. The remaining components will be implemented next year when they become mandatory.

On Thursday, we welcomed staff from the Illawarra Environmental Education Centre at Killalea who worked with our HPGE science students. Students have been diligently working towards their upcoming presentation, each targeting their individual strengths. Their projects include a digital magazine containing performances, drawings, podcasts, public speaking and much more. We cannot wait to see and hear the final outcomes. Judging by the level of enthusiasm, we may have some future scientists, actresses, presenters and podcast hosts in our midst.

Friday saw our first assembly for the year, including our Leadership Induction Assembly. Congratulations to all student leaders who were inducted. We look forward to watching you grow into your roles across the year. Leadership badges were handed out, smiles were big and nerves were very well hidden during their oath.

Following the assembly, our parent volunteers, along with Mr Chad, ran the Meet the Teacher BBQ and ice cream stall, serving families with enthusiasm and delicious food. We are incredibly grateful to all parents who helped make this event possible and to the families who attended. While it was a little quieter than last year, with some families heading off to sport or birthday celebrations, it was still a very enjoyable afternoon. Any afternoon that ends with ice cream is a good one in my book! A big thank you to Nora, Maureen, Jess, Martin, Sarah, Caitlin, Annie, Peta, Keiryn, Alicia and Mr Chad (sorry if I've missed anyone). It wouldn't have been possible without you.

Kind regards,

Katie Louttit

2026 Leadership Teams

Congratulations to our newly inducted 2026 student leadership team and our library interns. A special mention goes to the students participating in the Library Intern program, introduced this year in response to the high demand for library monitor positions and to support Mrs Green in the library. These positions have been highly sought after for 2026.

The Library Intern program provides students with the opportunity to develop the skills and experience needed to confidently apply for Library Monitor roles in 2027, should they choose to do so.

Jamberoo Swimmers Shine at Albion Park Pool

What a fantastic day we had at the Albion Park Pool on Tuesday. The weather was perfect, and the enthusiasm of our students and parents made it even better.

All 28 of our swimmers gave their absolute best, with many convincingly beating their previous school times. Their determination, sportsmanship and positive attitudes were a credit to our school, with the Jamberoo spirit on display. Our support crew was out in full force, with cheers and applause echoing across the pool throughout the day. It was wonderful to see such strong encouragement and team pride. Thank you to the parents who transported on the day, and to Mr Reed for ensuring swimmers were briefed and ready to race.

We are incredibly proud of every student who participated and represented Jamberoo so well. A special shout out to our 'super fish' on the day that will now be progressing to the regional carnival on March 17 at Dapto Pool.

Class Spotlight

Birrahlee

Birrahlee Shines in Their First Gymnastics Lesson

Birrahlee had a fantastic time participating in their very first gymnastics lesson. Students rotated through a variety of skill-based activities designed to develop strength, coordination, balance, and teamwork.

It was inspiring to watch the students collaborate and problem-solve together at one of the stations, demonstrating a strong growth mindset and perseverance — especially when faced with challenges or setbacks. Their determination and positive attitude were truly commendable.

I am confident that through continued participation in this program throughout the term, Birrahlee students will develop many new gymnastics skills while building resilience and confidence.

Nanga Mai

We have had another fantastic and productive week in our classroom!

In English, students have been focusing on creating engaging narrative openings. We have explored how authors hook their readers using vivid imagery and strong character emotion. Students have been experimenting with describing settings in rich detail and showing how characters feel rather than simply telling the reader. It has been wonderful to see their creativity developing as they craft powerful and engaging story beginnings. We are also thoroughly enjoying our class novel, The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. The students are making thoughtful predictions and connections as we follow Roz’s journey.

In Maths, we have been extending our understanding of decimals, working with numbers to the thousandths place. Students have been identifying the value of each digit and confidently reading, writing and ordering decimals. It has been great to see their growing confidence when tackling more complex place value concepts.

Our Gymnastics program continues to be a highlight of the week. Students have been demonstrating excellent effort, resilience and teamwork while refining their skills. Their competitive spirit is certainly shining through and it has been fantastic to see them encouraging one another.

Library

Welcome to the Library in 2026!

Library lessons will take place for all classes on a Wednesday. Please ensure students bring a library bag on this day to help keep our books safe and in good condition.

We encourage all students to borrow each week during their library lesson and to return their books the following week, supporting regular reading habits both at school and at home.

Reading plays a vital role in a child’s learning and development. It helps build vocabulary, comprehension, imagination, and confidence, while also supporting writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills across all learning areas. Most importantly, reading for enjoyment helps children develop a lifelong love of books and learning.

We’re also looking forward to welcoming our new library monitors and assistants this year, who will play an important role in supporting the library and helping create a positive, welcoming space for all students.

We can’t wait to inspire students to become enthusiastic readers and to enjoy spending time in our library space!

Library Lunchtime Update – Term 1 & Term 2

Dear Parents and Carers,

Please note that during Term 1 and Term 2, the school library will be closed at lunchtimes. This is due to myself choreographing the 2026 South Coast Dance Festival, which will be taking place in the school hall during these terms.

The library will still be open on Thursdays as a calm and quiet space for students, and for library monitors to continue participating in their duties.

If we have the opportunity to open some weeks this will be a priority. Once the Dance Festival has concluded, the library will reopen on Wednesdays at lunchtime, as per the usual routine.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Kind regards,

Mrs Green

Garden Club

Our garden program is in full swing! I am excited to be working alongside Mrs McCormack as part of the Garden Team, and we are thrilled to welcome several new volunteers. There is certainly no shortage of jobs to do!

After a very overgrown summer, we have been busy cleaning, weeding and culling to bring the garden back under control. Over the coming week, we will continue this work and are looking forward to the delivery of fresh soil soon.

Thanks to the CWA’s generous donation, we are hoping to install new metal garden beds in the next few weeks. If you enjoy building or would be happy to lend a hand, we would greatly appreciate your help. Please reach out via email or come and chat next week in the garden at 11:20am.

We are also planning to organise a working bee before the end of term. With a big team effort, we hope to have our garden beds refreshed and ready for winter seedlings.

Thank you for your continued support!
