Dear JPS Community,
It has been a busy and positive Week 4 at Jamberoo Public School.
On Monday and Tuesday afternoon, we held our Meet the Teacher sessions, with Kindergarten to Year 2 families meeting in classrooms on Monday and Years 3 to 6 on Tuesday. Thank you to the many parents and carers who attended. We value the strong partnerships built between school and home, as these relationships play a vital role in supporting student learning and wellbeing.
During both afternoons, students and siblings were supervised in the hall from 3.00 to 4.30 pm. Children enjoyed games, movement, dancing and social time together. A game of piggy-in-the-middle between 10 kids was a highlight! It was lovely to see all ages playing together. Around 4.00 pm, we transitioned to some appropriate viewing on the big screen to help everyone wind down. Behaviour in the hall across both afternoons was excellent.
On Tuesday, Mrs Behl-Shanks and Mr Reed supported our swimmers at the District Swimming Carnival. Thank you to both staff members for giving their time and support. Congratulations to all of our swimmers who represented the school so well. I have heard it was a great day, and thank you to Peta for passing on such lovely feedback to our staff. I am told the cheering was loud, the races were fast and the sun was very present.
On Wednesday afternoon, teachers engaged in professional learning focused on the new Creative Arts, HSIE, PDHPE, and Science and Technology (CHPS) for K–6, syllabuses. We are currently implementing the new syllabus documents for Music, Dance and PDHPE. A big thanks to Mrs McCormack for supporting the music component and Mrs Behl-Shanks for supporting the new dance lessons. The remaining components will be implemented next year when they become mandatory.
On Thursday, we welcomed staff from the Illawarra Environmental Education Centre at Killalea who worked with our HPGE science students. Students have been diligently working towards their upcoming presentation, each targeting their individual strengths. Their projects include a digital magazine containing performances, drawings, podcasts, public speaking and much more. We cannot wait to see and hear the final outcomes. Judging by the level of enthusiasm, we may have some future scientists, actresses, presenters and podcast hosts in our midst.
Friday saw our first assembly for the year, including our Leadership Induction Assembly. Congratulations to all student leaders who were inducted. We look forward to watching you grow into your roles across the year. Leadership badges were handed out, smiles were big and nerves were very well hidden during their oath.
Following the assembly, our parent volunteers, along with Mr Chad, ran the Meet the Teacher BBQ and ice cream stall, serving families with enthusiasm and delicious food. We are incredibly grateful to all parents who helped make this event possible and to the families who attended. While it was a little quieter than last year, with some families heading off to sport or birthday celebrations, it was still a very enjoyable afternoon. Any afternoon that ends with ice cream is a good one in my book! A big thank you to Nora, Maureen, Jess, Martin, Sarah, Caitlin, Annie, Peta, Keiryn, Alicia and Mr Chad (sorry if I've missed anyone). It wouldn't have been possible without you.
Kind regards,
Katie Louttit
