Term 2 Week 5

Principal’s Message

Community Spirit

Many thanks to our P&C for their coordination of the working bee on Sunday. It was lovely to walk into the school on Monday morning and see the beautification in the gardens around the school. Dudley PS is a wonderful place because of the people who make it. Shout out to the environmental and sustainability team for their organisation and for executing a successful event.

Working Bee

Walk Safely to School Day

Last Friday saw the staff joined by approximately 45 students and a selection of parents as we participated in the nationwide initiative of walking safely to school. Along the walk students were educated on road safety practices when crossing a road with and without a pedestrian crossing. They also discussed the benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle and regular exercise to maintain fitness. Thanks to the community for supporting the event.

Site Works Update

Over the weekend the focus of our roof restoration works moved from our 5/6H classroom to the building containing our K-2 classes. The scaffolding will be in our school for a little while more as the roof on the heritage listed building is replaced. I have been assured that every care is being taken by the contractors to ensure the safety of students, staff and community is at the forefront of their operations. This means that the temporary site fencing will remain in place and will result in everyone being safety conscious around the school site. It will also mean that some of our classes will have to temporarily relocate to other areas of the school whilst the works are undertaken on the roof above the classrooms.

Attendance

Many thanks to our families for your support with ensuring students are at school if they are feeling well over the last fortnight. We have seen a significant spike in absences due to general illness and positive covid testing. Whilst this has affected our attendance rates, we have been impressed with how quickly students are recovering from sickness and returning to school to maximise their learning days. Thanks for your ongoing support with this.

P&C Support

The P&C are relentless in their active support of the school. Our meetings are always productive and timely as we discuss important school issues and opportunities for the parent body to support the school, in action and financially. A fundraising event is fast approaching in the Comedy Night being held on Saturday 3 June. This event will feature comedians from the Sydney and Melbourne International Comedy festivals. The show will start at 7:30pm with doors opening at 6:45pm. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased from www.comedyforacause.net/DPS

Have a fabulous week everyone.

Sustainability

Gardening Group

A huge thank you to the organisers of the Mothers Day stall who generously donated leftover flowers for students to plant.

Thank you also to the P and C and community members who helped to make our garden look amazing at the working bee over the weekend.

We're looking forward to getting stuck into the garden in the coming weeks.

Garbage Guardians

This fortnight we are focusing on our white bin.

This is our soft plastics recycling bin. This includes things such as chip packets, plastic bags, zip lock bags and any other wrappers that you can scrunch.

We’ve also spoken about how we should all be trying to use less plastic.

Bento style lunch boxes that separate food into sections are a really great idea – they minimise rubbish and also help our environment!

Speaking of rubbish, our Garbage Guardians nominated another prize winner this fortnight.

Congratulations to Hannah in 2/3M who was spotted picking up rubbish in the playground that wasn’t hers. Well done, Hannah. We need more students like you!

Acknowledgement of Country

Dudley Public School respectfully acknowledges the Awabakal as the traditional custodians of the land on which we work, play and live. We also pay respect to Elders both past and present and emerging.

Always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
