Principal's Blog

Welcome to Term 2, Week 10 2025

Make My Day!

We are incredibly proud of our students who have been working hard to improve their number fluency. It's inspiring to see their determination and growing confidence as they achieve quicker recall of number facts. Airlie and Grace from 4T and Tamira, Jayden & Will from K6R shared their fantastic work.

Reports- Parent/ teacher

At Caves Beach Public School, we are dedicated to keeping you informed about your child's academic progress. This year, we are implementing the new NSW Department of Education reporting format, and we welcome your feedback on this process.

Each year, we provide two formal academic reports:

Semester 1 Report: Distributed at the end of Term 2, this report offers a comprehensive overview of your child’s progress during the first half of the year.

Semester 2 Report: Distributed at the end of Term 4, this report summarises your child's progress and achievements in the second half of the year.

If you would like to arrange a time to meet with your child's teachers to discuss the report, please don't hesitate to reach out.

In addition to these reports, we hold Parent-Teacher Interviews during Term 1, which offer a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s learning journey in more detail. We also encourage open communication throughout the year regarding your child’s learning and wellbeing.

As the relieving principal, it has been a joy to read every student’s report and witness the progress and successes they have achieved in their learning journeys. I want to extend my gratitude to the teachers who have dedicated their time and effort into creating reports that truly reflect each student’s strengths and areas for further development.

Athletics Carnival

What a fantastic day our students had at the 3-6 Athletics Carnival! It was a fun day where our students enjoyed participating in different events and showed enthusiasm and sportsmanship.

A huge thank you to our dedicated staff and supportive school community for making the day such a success. Special thanks to Mr Remington and Mr Powell for their organisation, ensuring everything went smoothly.

We also want to extend our gratitude to the P&C for organising the canteen, meat raffle, and coffee van, which were all well-received by our school community. Thank you for helping to create a memorable day for everyone!

As we reach the end of this term, I want to take a moment to recognise the hard work and dedication of our students. Your commitment to achieving your learning goals has been truly inspiring, and each of you should be proud of your accomplishments.

I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable break. Take this time to relax and recharge, and I look forward to seeing all of you back in Term 3, ready for new challenges and opportunities.

Beanies for Brain Cancer

On Friday our school was a sea of beanies as students proudly wore them to support Beanie for Brain Cancer Day. It was wonderful to see so many students getting involved — not just to keep warm, but to raise awareness and funds for the Mark Hughes Foundation.

Thank you to everyone who took part and donated. We raised an amount of $550 to donate to the Mark Hughes Foundation. Together, we’re helping make a difference in the fight against brain cancer.

Grow Your Mind

Another important Grow Your Mind concept to look after our mental health is Shark vs. Dolphin thoughts.  We are faced with many situations each day and it is vital we use our OWL and ELEPHANT to help us make wise decisions.

For example, you make a mistake on your work.

A shark thought is a harmful thought about yourself. You can challenge this thinking with dolphin thoughts. These are an optimistic way of thinking.

“Everyone makes mistakes, we learn from our mistakes”

“I have the confidence to try again”

“I can ask someone for help”

If you have a Shark thought how will you turn it into a Dolphin thought?

Understanding NCCD

In line with legislation, schools must engage with the student, as well as their parents, carers, and guardians, regarding the student's disability and the reasonable adjustments needed. While parental consent is not necessary for the NCCD, schools should strive to keep parents, guardians, and carers informed about the student's inclusion in the NCCD.

Dr Emma Steer explains the differences between learning differences, learning difficulties and learning disabilities.

Sport News

Sporting Achievements

The past few weeks have been action-packed for sport at Caves Beach Public School, with our students displaying incredible skill, determination and sportsmanship across a variety of competitions. Our school community should be incredibly proud of what has been achieved so far this term.

A major highlight was the PSSA Knockout Touch Football Gala Day, where both our boys’ and girls’ teams represented the school with pride.

The boys' team showed outstanding teamwork and resilience, winning all three of their opening rounds in impressive fashion. Their attacking flair and strong defence were on full display as they worked together seamlessly to overcome each of their opponents. They now progress confidently into the next stage of the knockout competition.

Our girls' touch football team also had a fantastic showing, claiming victories in their first two matches before being narrowly defeated in the third round. Despite the result, the girls should be incredibly proud of their efforts and the way they represented our school with determination and spirit.

In soccer, our girls’ team secured a hard-fought victory in their fourth-round PSSA knockout match against Redhead Public School. It was a closely contested game, but our team demonstrated strong skill and teamwork to come out on top. The win means our girls advance to the next round of the competition, and we wish them all the best as they continue their knockout campaign.

Our school basketball team also participated in their PSSA knockout gala day recently, playing four competitive matches. They finished the day with two excellent wins and gained valuable experience in their other two matches. It was a great opportunity for our players to develop their skills, enjoy playing as a team, and represent Caves Beach with pride. The team showed great sportsmanship throughout the day and should be proud of their efforts.

In individual representative news, we are thrilled to celebrate some outstanding achievements. Congratulations to Maiple-Rose W and Jimmy J, who were selected to represent East Lake Macquarie at the Hunter Touch Football trials. Their selection is a reflection of their hard work and talent, and we commend them for reaching this representative level.

A very special congratulations also goes to Stella L, who has successfully earned a place on the Hunter PSSA Girls Soccer Team. This is a significant achievement, and we know Stella will be a fantastic representative for both the Hunter region and Caves Beach Public School.

As always, we extend our sincere thanks to the staff, families, and volunteers who support our students at these events. We look forward to seeing what the remainder of the sporting calendar brings and wish all our teams and athletes the best of luck in their upcoming competitions.

Netball Gala Day

What a wild and windy day it was at our Netball Gala Day yesterday – but that didn’t stop our amazing students from giving it their all!

Despite the challenging weather, our teams showed incredible sportsmanship from the first whistle to the final siren. It was all about having fun, possibly trying something new, and building skills on the court.

A huge thank you to our parent helpers who coached teams and our supporters who helped make the day such a success.
