Message from Julie

Our school values are a big part of our whole school culture at Dernancourt School. They provide a framework for decision making and behaviour and help us to provide consistency in our actions. Most importantly, our values reflect the identity and uniqueness of our school. Our current school values are commitment, confidence, cooperation and respect. A question we have begun to ask our staff and students is: Are our values still reflective of our aspirations for our students and our school culture?

Over the past two terms, staff and students have been working together to discuss our school values. Classes have been working on this in their rooms and staff have had input during meetings and conversations. What we are discovering is that there is a need to update our values. We have begun collating values from conversations had with staff, students and governing council and our next step is to gather feedback from the whole school community. We are still working out the best way to do this, and will share more information with you all next term.

Holidays are fast approaching, with only one week left of the school term. We have some electrical works happening in the primary building over the break, with the upgrade of our switch boards. The office will be closed during the second week of the break to allow for the work to happen.

In weeks 1-5 of Term 3, Sophie Green, the P10 teacher will be taking leave. We wish her well on her travels. We welcome Janine Preece, who will be joining our team in P10 during this time.

Today, our term 3 receptions had their final visit before beginning ‘the real thing’ on the first day of next term. It has been wonderful to watch the children’s confidence grow each week.

Special thanks to the fundraising committee for organising the movie night tonight. The night has been planned for and organised by our wonderful group of parent volunteers, with all money raised going towards our playground upgrade. Thank you!

Julie

Every Day Counts!

Every Day Counts!

EVERY DAY COUNTS! Missed school adds up to a lot of missed education. Attendance rates since Covid times have not yet recovered to pre Covid (normal) rates across South Australia. We are working to have children at school every day. Every day matters. Please let the school know via the Audiri app, a phone call or Seesaw message if your child needs to be away and if it is for sickness or for family reason. All unexplained absences require follow up by teacher/school. An exemption signed by the Principal is required for family holidays of 3 or more days. Every day counts!

Casual Day

Casual Day

Week 10 Friday (July 4) is Casual Day at school! Students are invited to wear their pyjamas, Oodies or Ugg boots and bring a gold coin donation. All funds raised will go towards supporting local resident Rachel Green, a national finalist for Miss Australia, as she raises money for Variety – the Children's Charity.

Sports Donut Day

Sports Donut Day

Our SRC reps have organised a Sports Donut Day for Thursday July 24. Crows and Port Power iced donuts can be purchased for $2 from the canteen through the QKr app. Children will be able to wear their favourite sports team colours on this day. Proceeds from the sale of the donuts will go towards our new Primary playground. Final orders for donuts will close on QKr! at 9.15 am Tuesday 22nd of July.
