On Thursday September 21, many of our year 5 and 6 students had the opportunity to participate in the South Australian Public Primary Schools Festival of Music. Students performed in an amazing concert on the stage of the Festival Theatre in the city. It was a long day for students and staff involved, leaving school at 11am and not joining their families until after their concert finished at 9:15pm. A special mention to Albert, who represented our school as part of the orchestra. An amazing experience for all and a spectacular event. Thank you to all involved, especially Ms Barry, our Choir Teacher and Ms Amy and Julie W for helping support students on the day.
You may have noticed that there have been a few more changes to the butterfly garden near the Junior Primary gate. The students in P3, along with Garden Club, supported by Hillary and Ms Leonards have been working to install stepping stones and more plantings. Next steps are the addition of an irrigation system, mulch and more butterfly attracting flowers.
Over the school holidays, Dernancourt School will be involved in ‘Operation School Safe’ run by SAPOL. There will be extra patrols visiting the school over the break to help keep our school grounds safe. If you happen to be on the grounds over the holidays, please report any suspicious behaviour to SAPOL. Thank you for helping to look after our school.
Thank you to our wonderful Road Crossing Monitors this term. Each week both before and after school, 3 trained students join a teacher to help our school community cross the road safely. It has been great to see more families use the school crossing over the last few weeks. We encourage students to cross the road using the crossing to avoid crossing near the ‘Kiss and Drop’ zone outside the Junior Primary gate. The crossing monitors have enjoyed greeting the new and extra customers each day.
I am looking forward to seeing students in their casual clothes on Friday. SRC have organised the casual day and ask that students bring a gold coin along in support of the RSPCA.
Well, we have almost made it to the end of term 3. It is hard to believe that when we return to school on October 16, we will only have 9 weeks left of the 2023 school year. I hope you all enjoy the time with your families, and we look forward to seeing you again at the beginning of term 4.
