St Mary's Newsletter

Term 1 - Week 2 (9th February, 2024)

Dear St Mary's School Community,

Focus Value: : Faith

We believe in God and in each other.

Beginning of Year Mass

We had our Beginning of the year Mass this morning where we commissioned our new staff, school leaders and members of our SAC and P&F committees. We welcome them all and the parent volunteers especially, for contributing to the success of St Mary’s. I’d also like to thank Father Andrew particularly, for his continuing support of the school and community.

Parent Information Evening

Thank you to all the parents who attended the Information evening on Wednesday. It was wonderful to see so many supportive parents. Thank you to the teachers for the work they put in to preparing for the evening.

Welcome Back Event

Don’t forget our welcome back function at the pool today from 6-7.30pm. It will be a great way to start 2024-nothing better than getting wet on a 42C day!!

P&F Meeting

All are welcome to attend our P&F meeting next Monday at 7.00pm in the Library.

Hockey Clinic

Next Thursday we have a Hockey clinic for Pre-Primary - Year Six students.

Ash Wednesday

Due to last minute changes in the times of the swimming lessons there will no longer be a Ash Wednesday Mass. Instead we will be having a Blessing and Distribution of the Ashes Ceremony, where Father will bless the ashes and distribute them to all who are present.

8.50am      Blessing and Distribution of Ashes Ceremony in the Church.

After the ceremony, Father will come to school and distribute the ashes to the Kindy, Pre-primary and Year Five/Six students.

God Bless.

Mr H.

Class News

Year One/Two

Welcome back to school! in Year One and Two we have been setting ourselves up for success by creating our class agreement to ensure that our room is a safe and welcoming place to learn and be together.

Our school value is Faith, we believe strongly in God and in each other. We brainstormed ways that we can show our Faith by showing kindness to others, forgiving others and respecting others and our differences.

One activity was our "wrinkled hearts".  We shared a story titled  "In my heart" by Jo Witek which looks at all the different feelings that we hold inside of our hearts.  As a class we discussed how our hearts can be hurt by words and become wrinkled.  Sorry can make us feel better but the wrinkles can stay in our hearts.  Kind words were one of the key rules our class made for the classroom agreement so we don't wrinkle each others hearts.

"Bruce - the last great hunt"

The Shire of Merredin, Cummins Theatre is hosting “Bruce- the last great hunt” on Tuesday 26th March 2024 10.30am. This show is designed for fifteen (15) years and over and will be open to both high school students and the public

BRUCE is a loveable screw-up; he’s got one last shot at redemption but, with a lifetime of regrets hunting him down, he’s running out of space-time. Created and performed by Wyatt Nixon-Lloyd and Tim Watts, this side-splitting story is unapologetic in its minimal approach. BRUCE is a non-stop rollercoaster of action, adventure, and nostalgia.

Keeping you on the edge of your seat, BRUCE will sweep you away on an epic adventure of love and revenge. He may be just a floating block of yellow foam, but BRUCE is out to prove he’s got a heart of pure gold.

From the creator of the international smash hit The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer comes a new low-fi puppetry spectacular. Get ready to blast off for an epic adventure that bends time and melts your heart. After Tim Watts’ last two Helpmann Award nominated shows (The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer and It’s Dark Outside) performed to sold out crowds and rave reviews all over the world, Watts has teamed up with Nickelodeons’ Wyatt Nixon-Lloyd for BRUCE.
