Welcome back to Term 3!
We also warmly welcome several new students and families to our wonderful community. I’m sure you will make them most welcome.
It was with mixed emotions, both sadness and excitement, that we farewelled Ms Sheree Samsa, who has decided to retire after an incredible 49 years of teaching in schools across the state. We extend our warmest wishes to her as she embarks on this well-earned new chapter, with time to relax, put her feet up, and enjoy the adventures that lie ahead. We warmly welcome Ms Ciara Rodwell who has taken on Ms Samsa’s 3 days in room 5.
CPS has been allocated a significant amount of Government election funding thanks to Christine Tonkin who was a keen advocate for CPS.
The funding covers
- $700 000 - An upgrade to the Pearson Road crosswalk - to deliver signalised pedestrian crossing. Which is in this year’s budget.
- $850 000 for works to upgrade and reconfigure the parking area (Cromarty/Pearson) including creating a dedicated Kiss and Drive Lane.
- $60 000 for air conditioning in the library – this is currently in progress
We have also been successful in gaining a government grant for Solar Panels to support our sustainability focus on reducing power consumption. This is currently in progress.
I recently met with Basil Zempilas, MLA for Churchlands, who has expressed his strong support for Churchlands Primary School and our upcoming projects. We will continue to provide regular updates to the School Board, P&C, and wider school community.
This year marks CPS’s 60th Anniversary! To celebrate, we’re combining this special milestone with our Learning Journey event.

CPS has always placed a strong emphasis on creating an environment where health and wellbeing is prioritised. Recently, we reviewed our student survey data from the Resilience Project and the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) (completed every three years.) These data sets, highlighted a few key areas that require a more targeted approach in supporting students mental health and wellbeing. One important finding is the need for greater ‘shared responsibility’ between the school and home. We’ll be sharing how the school will support families in this shared responsibility, working together to strengthen the mental health and wellbeing of our children.
As many of you know, we have clear guidelines around the use of iPads and digital technology at school. Our focus remains on helping students become responsible digital citizens. iPads are to be used only under teacher instruction and only during class time. However, we’ve noticed some students using their iPads before and after school, which is not permitted. We have reminded all students of this rule, and we ask for your support in reinforcing this expectation at home. To help families stay informed and proactive about technology use, we strongly encourage you to explore the excellent parent resources available through the eSafety Commissioner website:

The building works to extend our undercover area have been slightly delayed due to the wet weather over the break. The builder is currently waiting on trades and the delivery of paving materials. We’re hopeful that the project will be completed in the coming weeks. Once finished, this extended space will make a significant difference, providing more room for events and giving students more seating during lunch breaks. A massive thank you to the P&C for their generous donation, which has helped get this important project off the ground and support the continued improvement of our school facilities for our community
