A FEW WORDS FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear families,

Term two is a wrap! Thank you to our students, staff and families for making this term a busy, vibrant and positive one of learning and connection. The holidays present everyone an opportunity to rest and reset for the second half of the year.

Aboriginal Art Show – Celebrating Learning and Culture

Despite the inclement weather, we were delighted to see many families to our Aboriginal Art Show on Wednesday afternoon. The event was a celebration of student learning, creativity, and cultural connection.

Throughout the term, students have explored a wide range of Aboriginal Art techniques, deepening their understanding of both artistic practices and important learning dispositions such as persistence, creativity, curiosity, resourcefulness, and respect. The artworks showcased students’ personal stories, thoughtfully expressed through written word and visual storytelling.

We extend our thanks to Nick Marks for his leadership in bringing together, this special event to our school community. We also appreciate the efforts of all students and staff involved in making the project a success.

Visitors from our Local Education team acknowledged our staff and students for their high quality learning journey throughout the term. The Aboriginal Art Show was a testament to our commitment to connecting learning with culture.

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this event.

Midyear Performing Arts Showcase

Last week, our students participated in the Mid-year Performing Arts Showcase Assembly, sharing their learning and talents with other classes. The event saw younger classes collaborating with older classes to present a diverse range of performances featuring instrumental presentations, rhythm, beat, and vocals.

This was a wonderful opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning dispositions in action—showing mindfulness by concentrating and staying present, working effectively as teams, and stepping confidently into performance mode. I was really taken by their deep focus in their performances. We were thrilled to see students embrace the challenge and showcase their talents, reflecting both individual growth and collective achievement.

We offer special thanks to Jayne Stanfield for her dedication and organisation in bringing this event together, as well as to Dan Rankine, who stepped in at short notice to support with drumming duties. I would particularly like to acknowledge students, Ebony and Willow who entertained us with their vocal rendition of ‘This is Me.’ Both very courageous and talented.

It was a brilliant celebration of the Arts at Hallett Cove East Primary School. Looking ahead, we are eager to explore ways to further involve our community in future musical showcase events, strengthening our connections and fostering a love for the Performing Arts.

 End of Term 2

As we reach the end of a busy and rewarding term, it is an ideal time for reflection and celebration of learning. When reviewing your child’s student report, we encourage you to engage them in learning conversations. For younger learners this might be:

  • What did you enjoy learning this term?
  • What was something you did really well?
  • Is there something you found a bit tricky?
  • What would you like to practise more next term?

For older learners it could be:

  • What do you feel proud of in your learning this term?
  • What strengths have you noticed in yourself?
  • What challenges did you face, and how did you try to overcome them?
  • Is there an area where you’d like to improve or focus more next term?

Framing questions around learning helps students recognise their growth and fosters development as we look ahead to the second half of the year.

I would like to wish all families a happy and safe holiday period. May you enjoy valuable time connecting with family and friends, doing the things you love most.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday, 20th July.

With regards

Matthew Chapman

Principal

A FEW WORDS FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL

Dear HCEPS Community

As we come to the end of another busy term, I would like to thank our students, families and staff for their continued support throughout the term. It has been wonderful to see so much learning, growth and achievement across our school community.

I hope everyone has the opportunity to enjoy a well-deserved break, spend time with family and friends, and return next term feeling refreshed and ready for another exciting term of learning.

Next term, we are delighted to welcome back Story Dogs to our school. We are very excited to introduce Jane and her beautiful Labradoodle, Harry, who will be working with a small group of students each week.

Story Dogs is a nationally recognised reading support program designed to build students' confidence, motivation and enjoyment of reading. During the sessions, students read aloud to Harry in a calm, supportive and non-judgemental environment. Dogs are wonderful listeners—they don't correct mistakes or rush students—which helps children feel relaxed and more willing to practise their reading skills. As students become more confident readers, they often develop greater self-esteem and a lifelong love of books.

We look forward to seeing the positive impact this program will have on our students and are excited to welcome Jane and Harry to our school community.

Wishing all of our families a safe, happy and restful holiday. We look forward to seeing everyone back next term.

Kind regards,

Robyn Physick

Deputy Principal

Story Dog News from Jane and 'Harry' the labradoodle

Hallett Cove East Primary School is very excited to have a new regular visitor to our school to help our students with their reading. ‘Harry’ and Jane will be visiting every Wednesday to help some of our year 2-4 students with their reading.

The Story Dogs program partners with the classroom teachers to help students with their reading. ‘Harry’ and Jane will help the same 6 students each week. The students will come out of their classroom and sit one-on-one with ‘Harry’ and Jane and read to ‘Harry’. ‘Harry’ loves to listen and will not mind if the student makes a few mistakes, he just wants to have a fun time so that books and reading become a joyful experience.

‘Harry’ is a Labradoodle who loves the beach and chasing balls.  ‘Harry’ is new to Story Dog’s and he loves sitting on his new reading rug and reading books. He is super excited about starting.

A FEW WORDS FROM THE WELLBEING LEADER

It's been wonderful to be back at school this term! I'm so grateful to be working alongside our amazing staff and students again and to be part of such a supportive school community.

I'd also like to acknowledge the fantastic work that Mrs L has done in this role over the past year. Her dedication, hard work and care for our students and school community has been greatly appreciated.

As we head into the holidays, it's a great opportunity to continue supporting wellbeing at home. Families can access resources through The Resilience Project, and even simple daily habits can make a big impact. Try having a GEM chat (Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness) together or make a point of recognising and sharing positive moments out loud. Modelling gratitude in everyday conversations is a simple but powerful way to help build positive wellbeing habits for our children.

Kind Regards,

Ellie Burford

SAPSASA News

On Thursday 25 June, our Boys’ and Girls’ SAPSASA Knockout Soccer teams participated in the local Minor Round Carnival held at O'Sullivan Beach.

Our Girls’ team played four matches throughout the day, achieving two wins, one draw and one loss – a fantastic effort, especially with several players participating for the first time. The team finished second in their group, with the only team to beat them progressing to the finals. Congratulations to Maidie, Charli, Marley, Ebony, Amalya, Niamh, Willow, Isla, Aleera, Allie, Zahlia, and Sophie on their wonderful performance. A special thank you to Christine for her excellent coaching on the day.

The Boys’ team played five games, with the last two back-to-back. They started strongly with a win and finished the day with another, making it two wins in total. The remaining games were closely contested against some tough opposition, but the team showed great resilience and determination to finish on a high note with a win. Another huge Thank you also to Simon for coaching and supporting the team during the day.

A big Thanks also to Clare, Alana, Taylor and Amber for volunteering to transport and support the teams on the day.

Well done to all students involved!

Congratulations to Alex who will play in the 12 and under Golf Championships early next term.

Also congratulations to Kaden for making the Southern Valley District Boy's Soccer team and Charli, Puneet and Zahlia for making the Southern Valley Girl's Soccer team. Good luck to you all.
